Interestingly enough I just got a jury duty summons in the mail today. And Alabama has no automatic excuse for age.

But you can request one by email if you are over 75. So I did that. They had better approve it.
California doesn't either, however- if you're over 70 you don't need much of an excuse to be permanently excused. My wife got a permanent excuse, I forget what she told them. I personally would welcome jury duty service again, I find the whole process fascinating.

In the Uk the call up for Jury Duty stops at 70.... I've never been called, I would have loved to have gone on jury duty , once anyway ..won't happen now

I would probably go except that my wife has mental health issues and I don't like to leave her by herself for that long. She got called a few years back and I had to get her psychiatrist to write a letter to get her excused.

2 or 3 years ago I got seated on a jury, first time since 1980. Since I had worked for the Sheriff's Dept. and Dept of Corrections, the prospect of not being excused by the defense attorney was slim, but there I was, ready for trial. However, just right before the trial began the defendant(a parolee) took a plea bargain, and it was all over.

Joshua Jahn, 29, the sniper who killed two migrants and wounded a third in a horror shooting at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility, has been pictured for the first time

Jahn was arrested in 2015 and was hit with felony charges for delivering marijuana in an amount greater than 1/4 ounce. He was a registered independent in the 2024 election

I got my first call back when I was in the Air Force. It for for Grand Jury duty so I was hoping to get a couple of weeks off from the Air Force. But the same thing happened. Right before the trial these two dudes in suits went up to the judge and all three got in a huddle for a couple of minutes and then they told us all to go home.

Joshua Jahn, another young man that threw his life away for nothing, and left society in worse shape.
this is the first thing that enters my mind always when this kind of situation happens....

It just always beggars belief to me, that essentially in a momant of madness people especially young people will exchange their life to live in a box behind bars , among hardened criminals where they have to watch their back every day of their lives... and live on their wits, never being able to make a decision for themselves ever again... never to know a real life or freedom ...

of course I'm preaching to the choir here , talking about that to yuo Nathan, you kow better than most
