I think if I needed this I would tell everyone just to text message me. Glad you found a useful product though, it sounds like this company is making products outside the norm for the hearing impaired which is fantastic in my view.
While I agree with R. Zimm (I would tell everyone just to text message me), this is still pretty great. Some times texting just isn't the same as being able to really communicate with your voice.
Some states programs offer free phone equipment for people with hearing loss or other disabilities. In California, the program is at CaliforniaPhones.org (see TV spots and testimonials at http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBE8307356586B530). Search for free phone programs for people with disabilities.
My own personal problem would be purchasing this item from Radio Shack; I note that Amazon offers a Plantronics-branded XLC2 for $92.97. Based upon many negative dealings with "the Rat Shack" - both my own and by friends - I would be more willing to purchase this through Amazon - it has a 5-star rating by 6 out of 16 reviewers, but the negative reviews might be just as influential. I think it depends heavily upon your own particular hearing difficulty - what specific frequencies you have problems with, background noise, etc.
