After that it wouldn't start even though I bought a new blade. That’s what I was going to suggest. It doesn’t cost much for a new blade.

Maybe the carburetor got flooded. That often happens if you’ve tried starting it often and it doesn’t start so you have to either wait or empty the carburetor which isn’t really a big deal either. ( sometimes just dirt in the carburetor)After that it wouldn't start even though I bought a new blade.
I hope this works out for you, Deb!We made arrangements for him to come today. He's here now (45 minutes past when I was told), but as long as he does a good job...and he's less expensive than the last one.
Good for you. That’s perfect. A lawn mowing kid. Yayyy! I’m genuinely happy for you.The librarian sent me an email suggesting another mower. He's a local kid. I called but spoke to his mom, aparently she screens phone calls. I told her her son was recommended to me by the librarian. We made arrangements for him to come today. How the heck would they miss that?I don't know whether it was the lawn guy or animal activity, but if it was animal, they'd probably more likely chew on the tender leaves. This looks shorn off evenly at the top ends.

A lighting artifact. It was early morning, so I used a flash. How the heck would they miss that?
Is that a different camera or just different lighting?
Ok. That makes sense.A lighting artifact. It was early morning, so I used a flash.
I haven't seen any large mammals around here or their "leavings".
I suspect in 6 weeks there won't be much left in the way of leaves. Somone told me to upend a bucket over it during winter for protection.
Do you have woodchucks in your area? Woodchucks or maybe squirrels could nip of small branches.I don't know whether it was the lawn guy or animal activity, but if it was animal, they'd probably more likely chew on the tender leaves. This looks shorn off evenly at the top ends.
