My "Baby" Got Stuck On The L.I.E. Today

He drives for JB Hunt and his truck broke down on the Long Island Expressway this afternoon, right during rush hour traffic. Blessedly he was able to pull over to the shoulder. He called at 5:11 to tell me that another trucker was on the way to pick him up and have the truck towed. Today had a real feel of 103, but he said he was able to stay cool.

He just texted me ( two and a half hours later!) that they're heading back to Jersey now. He'll still have a bit of a drive home when he gets to the yard. It will literally be past his bedtime when he gets in. He wakes up about 2:30 so he can be at work by 4:00 a.m. At least he will be paid for the extra time and trouble. 🙄

Oh no. I hope he gets enough rest after such an ordeal. To go working again tomorrow driving truck without enough sleep isn't good.
Thank you for your concern Remy. 🤗 It's 10:44 and my son still hasn't gotten home. I just spoke to him and said I know you're not going in in the morning. He said at this point it would be illegal for him to go in and try to drive when his shift starts. So he will not be going to work.

JB Hunt has strict policies about how long their drivers can drive or be in their trucks before they have to be relieved by another driver. Once my son had driven that allotted time,, was in another state and they told him to park it. They sent someone to get him and of course another driver to bring the truck back.

Oh, the "LIE", I haven't heard that in 40 years, since they threw me out of NYC. It used to amaze me that on the way to work there would be a broken down car on the side of the LIE, on the way home, there's be nothing but the frame of the car, left by the thieves.
Thankfully, your 'Baby' was able to pull off the road. New Yorkers aren't world famous for their kindness while driving.

That’s a good company that takes safety seriously.
Yes, I appreciate that about them. They seem to be proactive about avoiding possible lawsuits. Only thing I don't like about JBH is their health insurance sucks. My son has received safe driving awards every year since he started working for them. Even if the ruling wasn't in place that he couldn't drive today, he would have taken off anyway. He was also a trainer for a while, but didn't like it (too many bubble headed trainees) so told them he doesn't want to do it anymore.

@carouselsilver Thank you.
🤗

@Pepper My son always remarked on how he hates going to Long Island. He didn't even want to take me to the family reunion a few years ago because it was being held at the L.I. Marriott, then a cousin's house in L.I. But we went and he raved about the 2 day celebrationt all the way home. Unfortunately, he still has to drive to L.I. often. So I feel for your son!

@fuzzybuddy Stripped of the parts before the day is over, huh. That's a doggone shame! My son used to drive bus for Coach and did the N.Y.C. run regularly. In fact he had just left the area about 15 minutes before the planes hit the towers on 9/11. So he's used to N.Y. drivers.
