My Beloved BFF Forever

I got my first dog as an adult 21 years ago. She was 3 months old and I found out she needed a 4K heart surgery to save her. People thought we were crazy but we did the surgery and she lived to 15.

A year later I learned that many Maltese needed homes and we had 4 dogs all the time taking in old dogs that were no longer wanted. 4 years ago the expensive and workload was a lot so we didn’t take any more dogs. Luckily I only had 4 dogs when I found out my husband was cheating and I divorced him.

6 weeks ago a 9 year old dog that was half Javanese and half wiener dog needed a home and I took her knowing Amy’s life was short. Technically my condo only allows 2 dogs but they are pad trained so no one would know.

I actually thought I would be allergic to her so was just a foster home. Then I find out she needed a 2k dental and I’m not allergic to her so I did that and now she’s mine. She will never replace Amy but I like to think that Amy is proud of me for saving a baby that needs a home. That’s how I choose to honor her memory.

TY. I wish I could have saved her but the Vet said she was too old for her to do much more than meds for her. I made sure she had everything I could do for her.

We've been through it, more than once. It never gets any easier .. but, the hurt and sadness eases a little as time passes.

In the meantime, it helps to remember all the sweet things they used to do.

@Teacher Terry

You are a woman after my own heart. I, so very much, miss having a dog. We are in a "no pets" condo. I live vicariously through my daughter's 9 yr. old Corgi. We often take her out for drives in the country, and stops at dog parks.

Good for you and I wish you a happy journey with your new doggie 💖

Ty. I've lost many pets over the years, all kinds; dogs, cats, birds, amphibians, hamsters, fish, snails. I had Suzy for over 12 years. She was around 2 or 3 when I got her.

I've grieved many times. This time has been the hardest for me.

So, I'm trying to keep my head above water. I thank you and the others who have visited Suzy's thread here. That has helped more than you know. God bless you 🙏
