My car passed inspection, but....

The front tires have 5/32" tread and the rear 7/32" (legal limit here is 2/32). I bought them at the same time at it wasn't that long ago. I theorize that because my car has FWD, the front tires are wearing faster. Should I have them rotated? The inspecting garage didn't mention it it offer to do it.

Yes, always rotate your tires they will wear equally.

I would rotate the front to rear.
Do they have even wear? If so at least your alignment is good.

My tires get rotated at every oil change.

I use synthetic oil, so I have it changed about every 10-12,000 miles and get the tires rotated at the same time. This allows for fairly even wear and prevents tires from cupping.

The value of the car and the cost to rotate the tires are probably about the same.

I wouldn’t spend a nickel on it that wasn’t absolutely necessary to keep it legal.

Nah. I've had my current plates so long, they are probably rusted to the car.

Yes rotate the tires, keep the best ones on the front since it's front wheel drive.

Well, what do I know about cars? They all look alike to me.

I rotate & balance my tires between 5,000 to 7,000 miles. It's done at no charge at the place I bought my tires from for life of the tire. It definitely makes a difference in making your tires last & how your vehicle handles on the roadway.

Yeah, you're 100% right about the FWD thing. The front tires do all the heavy lifting, steering, braking, and pulling the car, so they always wear down way faster.

I'd definitely get them rotated soon. It’ll help even out that wear and make the whole set last a lot longer. Most shops do it pretty cheap or even free if you bought the tires from them. Definitely worth the 15 minutes!
