I absolutely hate that I was not notified they were discontinuing the ability
of my car to pair with my phone for No hands calling, GPS, and streaming music.
At my age I am not about to buy a new car. Mine has been paid off for awhile
and I like not having that bill each month.

I hate the radio stations for music, I love my Spotify and MY playlists that suit
my mood. My car will be 10 years old with 90k miles on it, lots of life left in it.

My option is look for a replacement radio/gps that will fit in my car.
Anyone done this? If so, any advice, problems or success stories?

That's a weird one. Why would they disable such a feature?

Did your car get a download from the manufacturer?

Did you check to make sure the bluetooth is on in your phone settings?
You might also want to try connecting via a USB cable.
Yes, tried resetting phone with USB, Bluetooth, and that other cable. The company that hosts it simply stopped service to certain models/years of cars.
I tried to find a cheat everyway I could, but that the unit being with that company over rides
anything I do. It just sits there with a "Loading " message running doing nothing.
I take it the computer chip is linked to their company. They want an upgrade purchase for a new unit from the Dodge dealership.
So you know what that cost will be and selections will be minimal.
The company is UControl. (ummmm no I don't ...You do)

@VaughanJB I went to the site and no download is offered for my car, not even an upgrade thing other than buying a whole new
unit from them with an added yearly subscription (which I didn't have before)

Sadly that seems to be the way things are going nowadays. Just about everything in new cars (particularly EV's) is on a subscription basis. So for instance, if you want your built in satnav to update itself then you have to pay a monthly subcription. If you want the latest sports settings for your engine and gearbox you have to pay a subscription. And for some essential items like being able to see the dials, etc, it seems to be that you can only do so as long as you pay the monthly subscription.

Thank goodness my youngest car is now 19 years old. It's an old Subaru Outback, and nothing on that is available via subscription. So I can change whatever I like, such as fitting in a new radio/CD player, etc. As long as I can find one that fits in the hole in the dash, then it's up to me to buy it and fit it, or get an automotive electrician to fit it for me.

Sounds like a service they try to sell with certain models here in Canada, XM Radio.

This is a subscription based service, I never paid into it.

To me, only the radio service should be stopped and not GPS???

I had to buy a new Smartphone because my bank said they no longer supported my OS version. The phone was fine, but it's effectively making perfectly good tech obsolete.

I looked at Ucontrol, and while there are several possible reasons for their action, the main one seems to be the unavailability of 2G or 3G networks in your area. Essentially, your car wants to connect via 2G or 3G, but the local provider has gone 4G or 5G....... Hence, you can't connect.

Good grief! I never thought about what network my car uses to pair with my phone so I looked it up.

"The 2017 Toyota RAV4 does not have built-in support for 5G, as it primarily relies on Bluetooth technology for phone pairing. However, you can still connect a 5G-capable phone to the vehicle using Bluetooth, as the phone's 5G capabilities do not affect the Bluetooth connection."

@IrishEyes, can you set up your phone to pair with your car via Bluetooth?

@IrishEyes I suspect the problem is not with the car, but that your phone updates don't want to bother with a 10 year old car. No one should own a car that old. What's wrong with you? My pickup is over 20 years old, but the only thing it's good for is driving me to where I want to go. How anyone could settle for that is beyond me. :)

Indeedl. Irisheyes should buy a car for more than she can afford that adds nothing to her quality of life. This is how capitalism and consumerism works. :D

Of course, it could be that her phone doesn't support 4G or 5G. But if that's the case, she should be buying a phone she otherwise wouldn't need. :D

We had to upgrade the security system in our house because our Telecom company no longer supported 3g equipment. That was costly.

Our car navigation system, which we never used, is no longer adequate. Boo hoo, they can’t track us as well.

OP, can you use a cable to pair directly with your phone. It won’t be as handy, but maybe you can play your favourites.

Try googling

GPS stand alone

I think you will find answers to what you want.
