My Ceiling - Leave It Or Change It?

Sometimes I think it looks like the ceiling in a Swiss chalet, other times kind of reminds me of a church.

The previous owner covered the beams with Mactac, that press on stuff some use for lining shelves. I know it is plain white under the Mactac as I took out a ceiling fan.

So do you think it would look better plain?

Are the plasticized beams through the whole house?
In a kitchen, I would probably paint them white as well. (if this were my home)
so your attention does not go to the ceiling. (nullify it)
or use the wood to hang big extremely rustic cross beams under them horizontally
and lower to hang whatever you love, (baskets, antique kitchen tools, coffee pots, etc).
White and rustic wood look great together! I'd bring in more wood, all the same shade,
it's a wonderful kitchen! Bring in some RUSTIC! rough baskets, rough wood
Make it your own!

if you was to try and take it off ,I think you will leave a sticky residue, and im not sure if you can paint over , if it was mine I would plaster board the whole ceiling , and paint it white ,but I think you would need a odd job man to do it .And it would be a bit more costly , but the finished look would in my opinion look more modern .

I would pull the paper and stain dark to match the backsplash. That would be pretty.
The beams run not only in the kitchen but also into the adjoining living room. A friend here in the park has the similar setup and did that only they painted the beams a dark teal colour and put a huge picture over the fireplace that had the same shade of teal as the dominant colour. I thought it looked nice but when they went to sell the realtor told them that most of the critique was about the teal beams.

Most are voting for all white which is the way I am leaning too. I've been stalling on this job ..... 18 side beams plus the long stretch of center beam running all the way from living room to kitchen.

Think it might be best to start on the right corner to see if that stuff is going to come off easily. No way can you paint over it, that would be too easy

Good choice, hard to go wrong with white. Best of luck with it!

Lee, have you tested a small strip with white paint. It might need to be prepped with a solvent first. Talk to the folks at the hardware or paint store.

As I recall MacTac was considered a brilliant invention when it first came on the market. Removal turned it into the product from **ll.

Not yet Jules, likely will start tomorrow or the next day with a test strip. First got to move a ton of stuff in the shed to get to the ladder.
