My Cochlear Implant is Working

The Activation was a three hour procedure with the ENT Audiologist programming the implant. At the end of the session he had me repeat numbers and individual words. I got them all and only had trouble with one word ENTERPRISE. Sentences were more difficult but he said as I continue to use the implant and listen to a variety of sounds I will experience great improvement. He was right. I see improve almost by the hour. It's a Brain Thing they tell me. My brain has to adapt things sounding somewhat different and then adusting again to prior implant hearing. All in all I am pleased and glad I had the procedure.

Wonderful Lon....it must be fantastic to have your hearing back, but I suspect it may be a little overwhelming at first...and you'll become very tired after a while of all the sounds, until you're fully used to it all again...

Can i ask how much the whole procedure cost?

That is amazing. The brain adapts.

It also adapts for eyeglasses. My first pair sent me loopy for awhile. Everything looked distorted.

So keep practicing and stay away from enterprises.

Good to hear of your success. I'm interested because I've had my Widex H.A.'s for 2 yrs now, and I DON'T like them, and I haven't adjusted at all.

Half the time I forget to put them on - I had to write notes to leave on the basement door and the shower door to remind myself.

Once I was in the shower and had begun the hot water and had them on for about 20 sec. before I caught myself. Not to mention the fact that when I wrecked my bike over a yr ago, I lost them and had to purchase my replacements (at reduced cost).

Of course, some of that is a brain problem, not related to hearing. Where can I go to fix my brain?
