My Deer is back

I believe I first mentioned her about a year or so back...She seemed to come around about three or so times in a week. Then she stopped....Well tonight she returned....fairly sure it is the same one, appears now fully grown....and she's a big girl. Just a beautiful coat , tan, with just a bit of white around the face.

Her bravery is what convinces me that it is the same one.....she came up on the porch & drank all the water from the cats water dish, then stood there & looked at me through the storm door...LOL!

I'll put the bucket of water back out now if she is going to start visiting again.

I do worry that she might see her image , and ram the door.....but hasn't yet. I don't know if Doe's do that or not? That might be a Buck thing?
 

Seeing deers in the yard is kind of neat. We have several that hang out in our woods, and its pretty common to see one or two grazing on the grass in our yard in the early morning or late evening. In drier weather, they regularly come to the bird bath for a drink, and I've resigned myself to losing a portion of my garden to their appetites.

I used to be a hunter, but over the past few years, I get more enjoyment from just watching them. Sometimes, when I'm out in the woods with my tractor, I will see one or two following several yards back....I guess they get curious as to what is going on in their "turf".

We've lived here long enough to see several fawns go through their entire life spans...and in the Fall, watching the bucks compete for attention among the does can be quite interesting.
 
So cool to see a deer visiting. I bet it's the same one and so glad she has survived in this world. I see deer every once in awhile here. Usually once a summer. Last one I saw was limping. I hope she recovered.

They are great to watch, we get lots of them on our property, the back of my property is heavy bush. They are used to my boys barking at them, they don't seem to care anymore. They love coming up and getting on their hind legs and eating the bird food. In the winter we put the apples off the apple tree that fell on the ground and a couple of salt blocks. We get all kinds of wildlife on our property most days, deer, wild turkeys, bear now and then (Bears live and travel a 30 mile radius. Awhile back now, saw 5 wolves back at the tree line. Always wonderful to watch and enjoy..
 
LOL! I noticed today, in the daylight ......I have deer nose prints on my storm door glass.
 
Please don't feed the deer. They get along quite nicely without you. Plus you have no idea what else you are feeding. Meaning BEARS. After they get trained to associate humans with food, it's inevitable bears have to be put down. They are smart critters and will break into summer cottages in search of your goodies. Then it's too late for them.

I don't "feed" the deer...I put out food & water for 2-3 cats that live in the neighborhood . The deer just come by at times and indulge.........particularly this one.
 
Whatever food is put out and no matter if for deer or cats, eventually a bear will find it.

The other day, there was a bear in a tree going after th bird feeder at my son's home... a residentail neighborhood, not like like the sticks!

I'm enjoying the deer more these days since I triple fenced my veggie garden. I don't think a flea could get through my fencing. We have herds of them come through. They loved my Hosta's. I ripped them out and planted Lillie's Of The Valley. Not has pretty but the deer hate them. A lot less aggravation now.
 
Besides deer, my yard gets raccoons, skunks, rabbits, bears, ground hogs, and turkey. In the spring, a lot of the trees have these tiny frogs. They have tiny little fingers, which I find fascinating. I don't know if it's me or what but I tend to see the same critters at the same times of the year. Very early on in the spring, I'll see turkeys. But that's it, I won't see them until next year. Where they go???? Then I be inundated with rabbits-TONS of them. It's hard to pull into the drive way without seeming to run them over. They won't move until you are about to run them over, Then they're gone?????? All the rest seem to pop up in the heat of summer. All except the deer, they hang around, but if it's super cold out they stay on the south side of the hills.
I'm not a lawn fanatic. If it gets mowed 3-4 times a year, I'm ok with that. So my back yard gets knee high, it's over 200 feet wide. When I do mow it, this has happened several times. I'll start and go strait down 200 feet, mowing away. I'll turn around to come back, the mower making all kinds of noise.. There will be a deer , in the newly mowed path, about 5 feet from me. His head will be tilted to one side as if to say , "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?". You can tell he just can't figure it out. Am I eating the grass or what. They are such curious animals.
