My Diabetes Story
I was diagnosed with Diabetes 2 in 2007 with a A1c of 6.8 I was shocked since I was 6' 4" & 200 lbs. & physically active. Hardly overweight, but I did pig out on carbs big time. Pizza, rice, potatoes, oatmeal cookies,French bread. fish & chips, spaghetti, noodles, etc.
I have taken no meds since then and opted to go the diet & exercise route. I cut immediately 90% of my carb intake and elimanated most sugars and continued with my physical activities, increased my protein and veggie intake and now I am still 6' 4", but 190 lbs and my last Aic was 5.4. Whoopee, I made the 5% Club. I do miss the carbs though, I know I am not cured of diabetes and will continue with my regimen to control it.

I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2008 I weighed Almost 90 kg at the time however I did not eat junk food just to many carbs..
I had in the past tried to loose weight without sucess, After having the life scared out of me with all the side effects of diabetes I was determined to loose weight .... I contacted a diet company who planned and diet on your blood type? they then supplied a diet using your own foods not meal replacement shakes or tin food.
I lost 25 Kg .....And have kept it off I continue to have my yearly check up and the doctor asks each time "Who diagonised you with diabetes" my blood sugar tests are always the same, (Normal range no sign of diabetes ) I have never taken any tablets for diabetes.

Kudos to both of you for handling your diabetes so well. Some in my immediate family have had diabetes, and I'm trying to avoid it, as I don't ever want to have to take medicine or injections for it. I used to do a fasting glucose test to make sure I didn't have diabetes. My results ranged from 83 to 99, and the test standard was 60-99.

Last week, instead of the regular fasting glucose test, they gave me the newer HbA1c test. Now my test result show 128.

The other number is 6.1, and the test standard is 3.4-5.6.

So I'm now considered pre-diabetic, and also have to cut down on the carbs for sure. I'm not that much overweight, but I need to lose a few more pounds for sure. I've also been exercising more and intend to keep it up. Lon, I need to be in the 5% club with you.

SB I was told 6.1 is a little high .... The diabetes nurse tells me fasting test is no higher than 5.8 for non diabetic any higher it's diabetec
my his HBA1 is always 5.3

The witch doctors in the hospital diagnosed me as being diabetic a few months ago, but to my stubborn mind it was borderline.

Doesn't stop me from injecting 16 units a day, though, and cutting way back on carbs ... :(
