My doves had two babies!

Well, they're not "my" doves but they made a nest on a second floor ledge right outside of my home office. This isn't the first time. This seems to be a "safe space" for them because it's high up and covered.

I have heard them cooing and I have watched them over the weeks as they've carefully brought up twigs to create their nest. I watched the mother sit on the nest per the attached pic. Today I looked out and saw they were feeding two babies in the nest. I didn't take a pic because it would require raising the blind and I didn't want to scare them. It has been so awesome watching this process.

Silly, I know, but sometimes it's the little things!

I watched this close up, one year, several yrs ago, when they made their shallow nest in a 2nd floor window box between 2 small plants.
The 2 adults took long turns, minding the nest, with a distinct switching routine.

Quite interesting over the entire process, and especially exciting was watching the first flights of the young fledglings... a short distance, at first, and under very watchful eye.... of the parents, and of we human onlookers. šŸ˜šŸ˜Šā˜ŗļø

That’s not silly at all. We have a robins nest that gets used every spring. It’s just above our walk out door in the basement. It’s fun to watch the progress of baby eggs hatching. Then watch her feeding them. It IS a small thing but such precious a thing it is. Enjoy while you can. Ours usually has 2 batches of birds.

I love bird watching, I have a grapevine that grows across my back porch and has had different bird nest in it over the years including hummingbird nest that are fascinating to watch...only thing...black snakes get in the vines, looking for a meal.
Another bird nest I remember was the time my neighbor brought in Quails and turned loose on his land for hunting purposes, later I found baby Quails and mama in a nest in my flower bed.

I am really happy to see this thread. Doves are my favorite birds and I've owned several over the years. The first one lived 13 years, the last one that I lost a couple of years ago, lived for 10 years. She used to sit on a perch (pictured below) in the kitchen and watch me do my work. Sometimes she would fly off the perch and light on my shoulder; kiss my ear. I miss her.
