My Family is Hooked

We have joined the electronic era. My daughter must be reading a joke as something is funny to her. My oldest, actually reading a paper, has his IPhone at the ready, on the rail. My youngest son has his nose buried into his Blueberry, or Raspberry, or some kind of berry..On the extreme left is my Ipad and my wife, off camera, is probably playing spider solitaire or Bejeweled. We are hooked.

If you had told me 50 years ago that all this info would fit in your hand, I would have had you committed. Oh, and by the way, we do communicate with each other very well. I've got the best damn kids in the world. :sentimental:

Good looking family Pappy, but where were you in all this; or just manning the camera?? I noticed the same thing yesterday...daughter with her cameraphone ready, and texting with their daughter-in-law in CA; granddaughter with her phone, until she opened her gift of headphones, then she was dancing around with them on.
Son-in-law and grandson with phones also, but watching tv, too.
Two younger grandkids playing with their new gifts; or else on the PC with games or youtube.

What a difference from years ago when everyone was chatting after dinner while cleaning up, and some playing board games; kids usually outside, or playing with new 'stuff'.

Had to wonder what our parents/grandparents would think if they saw this scene being repeated in nearly all households these days.

Still; had a wonderful Christmas with good food & family, and hope yours was the same.

There were only 5 of us at Christmas dinner and no cell phones in sight.

Well 2 of us, me and the mister, don't even have cell phones and my mom never has her battery charged and is on some plan she has had forever with 15 minutes a month and she has never gone over it.

But I agree it's something else Pappy, you can carry around the whole world in the palm of your hand.

Sad but true! I see this all the time, kids walking together and every single one of them is on their phone texting or whatever else they are doing !?

Last year one of my neighbor gals (she's in her late 30s) was always bugging me about taking our dogs for a walk together.
So finally one day we did get together for a walk, she spent almost the entire walk on her cell phone talking to somebody. WTF Really!!!! I couldn't believe it, she was just BS'ing, nothing important at all.

Sheesh! needless to say that was our first and last walk together.

I used to get a lot of laughs at my bouncing job, when the customers would come in and drop $50 bills on a dancer so she'd sit and have a drink with them, only to have the girl spend all her time with him texting on her phone. ;)

I'm surprised no one called the Better Business Bureau on us.

What stumps me is; does it never occur to them that this is just plain rude??!! It's ok to take a call, but sheeesh...when you're with someone, keep them company, not the damn phone!!!

So, these days, do people go on dates and chat on their phone the entire time?? Or play games??? Maybe answer a call in the middle of their wedding???

Play games on the phone on their wedding night??? :lofl:

It's a very real sickness, I'm serious, people can't be without them. One of the last times we went to the movies a teenage girl a few rows in front of us had her cell phone on almost the whole time and the light from it was bugging me and another old bag, we kept throwing popcorn at her. The girl never could figure out where it was coming from. :playful:

A couple of weeks back in St Kilda, Melbourne, a young Taiwanese tourist walked off the end of the
pier and into Port Philip Bay.
A witness called the police and she was found about 30 metres from the pier.
She wasn't a good swimmer but she didn't panic, was floating on her back.
When they pulled her on board she apologised to the cops saying she was checking her Facebook
and still had her phone in her hand. She was lucky she only needed a blanket to warm her up.
That should be a lesson learned but I doubt it.
