My favorite drink back then

When I was much younger I loved a Long Island Iced Tea. At first I did not know that it was nothing but alcohol. And one time I drank too much of it and became "Black out drunk". My co-worker had to carry me home and laid me in my bed. My wife thought that I was dead!

I still enjoy a Manhattan every now and then.

Captain Morgan Spiced Rum & Coke was pretty much my preferred splurge.
Just smelling it would probably do the job now though.

A Brandy Alexander was a classic creamy cocktail that blended brandy (or cognac) with crème de cacao (a chocolate liqueur), cream, and a garnish of freshly grated nutmeg.

Makes me think I should have been drinking it with elbow-length gloves on and my hair up in a chignon. Who can resist any cocktail that has a lovely bit of cream in it? I can count on one hand how many I had "back then"...very rich. It made a lovely holiday drink.

Now I want one this Christmas
It's been decades. Thank you Zardoz for the pleasant memory.

I haven't drunk for years. I got burned out on it from my younger days. When I did drink, I liked mixed drinks such as Pina Coladas, Strawberry Dakari's, and Tom Collins. Since then when I've drank, I've ordered those in the virgin version. That always aggravated me, because they charge you the same price with or without alcohol.

Back in Australia when I was a party girl my fave was a Dry and Dry. When I landed in America and tried to order one, no bartender knew what I was talking about! It’s ginger ale and dry vermouth. When I explained the ingredients to bartenders, occasionally they’d recognize it, one called it an Italiano.

The other drink of choice was a shandy..half beer half lemon lime soda like sprite or 7up, though in Oz those kinds of sodas were simply called lemonade, which created some confusion when I moved here!

And finally, I also loved a Pimms cocktail. The Brits on the forum surely know what that is!

Oh, Lord have mercy on me for the things I used to drink.

Before I was "legal", the sophisticated ladies' drink was a Sloe Gin Fizz. Not only did it look AND taste like Vicks Formula 44 Cough Syrup, but when (and notice I said "when" and not "if"....it was a given) you yarked it up at 2 a.m., it was spectacular. Technicolor, even.

After that, it was whatever was cheapest, usually a Tequila Sunrise or a Pina Colada, both of which I cannot tolerate now because I've developed an intolerance for rum.

Nowadays, it's a top-shelf Margarita 2-3 times a year for a special occasion. For some reason, tequila agrees with me. Or a beer or hard cider on occasion.

My first 28 years were spent on Long Island but I never had Long Islang Iced Tea. I think it was concocted after I left. It sounds awful.

I don’t know if the poster means what is your favorite alcoholic drink or just any drink. Since I don’t drink alcohol, I would say I really enjoy a nice cuppa Earl Grey tea.

Southern comfort Manhattan was and still is my go to drink.
2 oz Southern Comfort
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
3 dashes bitters

Pour the Southern Comfort, sweet vermouth and
bitters into a mixing glass half-filled with
ice cubes. Stir well, and strain into a cocktail
glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry, and serve.

As far as regretful drinks... MD 20-20 and Yago Sangria comes to mind. (Yago because it reminds me never to get a nun drunk again).

I love iced tea. It's my favorite drink. Several people in the past told me to order a Long Island Ice Tea that it tasted like ice tea. They said you couldn't taste the alcohol in it. I ordered it a couple of times. I could taste the alcohol and it did not taste like ice tea to me. It tasted nasty to me.

In my younger days, this would be cider. Note that in the UK, cider is alcoholic and frequently strong. My favourite one was Biddenden Special Reserve which was - and still is - about 14% ABV. I sometimes buy a case by mail order for Christmas.

For a relaxing drink. I like a nice G and T. I prefer using Greenall's gin and fresh lime juice.

I love iced tea. It's my favorite drink. Several people in the past told me to order a Long Island Ice Tea that it tasted like ice tea. They said you couldn't taste the alcohol in it. I'm with you.....Long Island Iced Tea is nasty.

My go to drink was usually a screwdriver, light on the vodka.

On the rare occasions now when I have a mixed drink it's either a Margarita or vodka and soda. Maybe 4 times a year.
