I'm so sorry about the loss of your friends, Mrs. R. It hurts my heart to even think about people dying without loved ones nearby. I hope your friends had gentle, loving hospice care as they left this life.
Ronni, The winds blew like crazy here all night last night and are still whipping viciously. I was thinking about your son being on those fire lines and hope that all is well with him and his fellow fire fighters. There have been several additional flare-ups in various nearby areas over the past couple of days, but the brave men and women on the lines have knocked those down quickly.
Regarding the way these fires have been politicized, I will merely say that criticizing or failing to support fire departments or forest services at any time will bring nothing good back to the critic. For a highly placed official to do so during an extraordinary level of crisis shows remarkably poor judgment and will bring widespread condemnation of those remarks. And rightfully so.
We in So Cal and around the country (and likely most of the world), value and support our fire fighters and first responders. With a starting salary over $65K, Los Angeles puts our money where our mouths are. LAFD firefighters are among the best paid in the country. May God help keep them safe as they work through these dangerous conditions while protecting the rest of us.
