My first cold of the season. What did your Mom make for you when you were sick?

What did your Mom make for you when you were sick?

Yep, slathered my chest with the stuff
Then, slapped my cap and coat on, and 'made for me' a way to school

I remember one poor little soul bein' fed alphabet soup.... for breakfast(?!)
I know this because he barfed it all up right after getting off the school bus
We all gathered around that glompy mess
Somebody said 'Hey! I can spell my name!'

Good times

love the photos of when you were young and your dear dog. 🤗

Tea and toast. 7 up. And vicks on my chest w/a towel wrapped around my neck/chest area.

And she would spray Lysol everywhere. Geez, I can still smell that stuff lol

My mother was strictly an OTC pharmacy believer. Baby aspirin cured all ills. But I had a landlady when I was in my 20s, her name was Stella and she had a special home remedy. She gave me a glass of it when I was starting a cold. It was a liquid with a lot of fruit steeping in it. It cured my chills immediately and made me feel nice and warm and drowsy.

Unfortunately, I woke up several hours later with a pounding headache, vomiting and just generally miserable. I found out later that her "miracle cure" was some sort of extremely potent brandy...it was my very first major hangover. But in one way she was right, I forgot all about the cold...

The usual things. Bed rest, Vicks vapor rub, and chicken soup. I remember a product called, “Save the baby” that I think she rubbed on my chest and put some in a bowl of hot water to breath in. Oh, and I always had an ear ache in my right ear. Heating pad, smoke in the ear and some sort of drops.

Thankfully, none of us suffered those awful earaches that most kids do, Pappy. Nor did our children. Just plain luck I guess. My maternal grandmother had innumerable ear infections resulting in mastoiditis. The performed surgery to correct it back in the day and she had a horrible scar as a result. It cured her though. Sad.

I had a friend who had that operation done. Left a big hole behind his ear. I always dreaded that I would get it.

Nothing as I can recall. Mom was a working mom. My grandmother took good care of me with homemade chicken soup and just about anything I could wish for. As I recovered dad would buy me Chinese food which was a favorite. If they were here now I'd get sick again just for the fun of it. :giggle:

Pappy just reminded me of something when he mentioned the heating pad.
A little off topic, but the 'hot water bottle', that rubber blob that you filled up w/hot water.

My mom had one of those too, to use when we were sick, mostly w/cramps.

HAHA. When I was sick, my mom made me a lot of noise.
She'd yell at me for doing whatever I did that she told me not to do as the cause of my illness.
"You got sick because you hung around with that friend I told you to stay away from. I told you he's no good."
"You got sick because you went bike riding after I told you to stay inside."
"You went outside when it was cold."
"See? You didn't listen to me & look what happened. Next time, you'll do what I say! This will teach you!" :ROFLMAO:

Actually, she was right. It did teach me - that stupid people can have kids.

We used to get Campbell's chicken noodle soup, saltine crackers, Sprite, children's Tylenol when younger. If we had tummy issues, we got strawberry jello 'water' once we were on the mend ...unset jello at room temp. NyQuil was added to the mix for nighttime (no Tylenol at night since NyQuil has it) for colds once we were over 12.
