One drawback.
All parking in Fremantle is via paid parking meters.
When was the last time I paid for parking?
Maybe two years ago.
Where did this paid parking venture come from?
The US of A, where else?
Oklahoma City installed 175 Park-O-Meters on July 15th 1935. (5 cents an hour)
Australia got it's first parking meter 20 years later when the capital of Tasmania - Hobart - installed the meters.
(10 cents an hour)
Parking meters are a very lucrative cash cow.
In 2022 Perth City proper received $70 million in parking fees.
Parking fees in Fremantle today will be $2.70 an hour.

Stop complaining.
A visit to Freo is worth the cost of parking any day of the week.

What will you do there?
they may very well be using wheelchairs or zimmer frames which require transporting ? or prefer private transportation rather than crowded messy public transport - lets be considerate to us elderly ??

we have had parking meters for decades here.. they're are in fact outdated mostly now.. Instead we pay mostly by card over the phone.... Either pay on the day r pay in advance for parking..

In London in 2019/2020 the council raked in a whopping....£728. million from off-street parking.. that means in Aus Dollar 1 Billion 388 Million, 550 thousand .. or ...$927 Million USD ..... just for London.. not counting any other city in the UK...just for one year

Fremantle is rather run down these days.
Many businesses have closed. There are no live music venues left.
The well to do came in and bought up property, raising the average price of a place to $1.1 million.
These well to dos complained about the live music venues being too loud, they complained about antisocial behaviour linked to the music venues.
The music venues had restrictions imposed on them making many of them unviable.
Today, after 6pm, vagrants rule Fremantle.

Totally obscene.
All that revenue should be allocated to the NHS.

We are far from requiring wheelchairs or frames.
I am driving us there and we will walk around for a while, have a coffee, go to Monument Hill for a view over the city.

how very very sad if indeed true - Fremantle was once my workplace and social venue although never did live there - why oh why - is there no more commonsense around?

I am aghast.
I paid a whole $5 to park my car for 111 minutes. 😁
