My friend who lost her home posted pics last night...

I believe loosing the home is a kick in the teeth. I was in hospitals and nursing homes for a year. The day I got back into my home was getting part of my life back. If I came back to ashes, I would have been devastated. A home is not just a physical thing, it represents safety, and emotional comfort. I would not downplay the shock of loosing a home. Yes, it can be replaced, but that doesn't blunt the initial shock and trauma.

They are devastated. She just keeps saying over and over that it is just surreal. Insurance will cover-hopefully they have enough coverage.
I am so glad to see you! We haven't heard from the kids' dad for days but have seen that Lake County is one where there are fires. Are you in any danger there? Are there evacuations in Lake County?

California is having an especially bad fire season this year....and fire season out West is just getting started. I would hope that those in disaster prone areas....fires, hurricanes, etc., get their important documents and things like family photo albums, etc., ready to go, and pay close attention to the local news. Houses and furniture can be replaced....if a person has decent insurance....but important papers, etc., can really exacerbate the issues, if they are lost. Everyone should try to have a disaster plan in place, and be prepared for the worst.

Here's current map of the areas currently at risk........

@Mrs. Robinson I too are at a loss for words......condolences to your friends......they're still have their lives.....but.....doesn't change the fact of the great deals of material losses......such as pictures......My deepest thoughts out to your friends, and yourselves, for seeing the ending tragedy.....i'm sure you're great support for them.

It's going to take a long time to recover from this. I wish them the strength to start over. They have each other, and that's the important thing. "Things" can be replaced. And rebuilding will bring on a new set of memories. They can put their experience and imaginations together to build an even better house.

So sorry for your friend 😥.

My mom was out of town, I lived a mile from her home, a neighbor called to tell me my moms house was on fire. It was so involved when I got there nothing could be done. I had to watch my mom's home burn to the ground. 😢
Oh how awful for you and your mum... I can't even imagine having to stand there while your family home burns down in front of you eyes.. Did your mum lose everything ? :(

We are fine so far. These fires were all started by an incredible (and very unusual)thunder and lightning storm we had last Sunday and Monday.I have never seen anything like it here-it lasted all day long on Monday.Over 10,600 lightning strikes. We were doing so well before then.

Georgia-we are fine over on this side of the lake-the other side is having more and more evacs. My grandson lives about an hour south of us and he was evacuated earlier today-now my daughter who lives about 45 min. south of us has been evacuated too. It`s very, very smokey here-so much so that my donkey won`t eat today. I think she remembers what happened last time-a long, long walk down a dirt road with a complete stranger,a very long trailer ride-which she had never had in her life, just very short ones-and staying with a stranger (although she did get seriously spoiled). Now they are saying more lightning in the next few days-ugh!!!
