My home, once in a paradise, is now in a mess!

All of Hawaii (not us) fires off fireworks. No place to run to; no place to hide, People have been killed and roofs set on fire.
I understand now. I had a friend who lost a couple of fingers to fireworks...

I'm another who values privacy. I have no secrets but don't want everyone knowing all my business. Therefore, although I have lived here a number of years, I have never become friendly with anyone. However, recently, there was an emergency in my building and we were all told to get out. I couldn't believe how kind the neighbours were, bringing us cups of tea and fussing over us. Someone even lent me a pair of slippers because I was in my socks. We had to stay in a hotel for a week while the building was made safe. Now, I have to smile at everyone I meet as they were all so nice.

That's wonderful! I got hit by a tornado in April of 2019, went right by my home...flattened all my trees, snapped the west side roof and my entire fence on that side as well, and a tree fell on my car and smashed it!...in the aftermath, not one single neighbor came to see if I was alive or even ok, lol! I wasn't surprised. That's me....the lonely, private and distant girl who lives down the road. Such is my life. :)

I admire your honesty. So many people pretend to be something they are not. At least, people know where they stand with someone like you.

Waving at you was what you said in last post.

I guess you could keep ignoring them and eventually they will stop trying to be friendly.

You could also smile and wave back, that doesn't seem bothering to me.

Unfortunately, some people would quickly take that as a signal to come closer to me, closer everyday. 🤣 I can understand not wanting to encourage more invasion. Better to not get anything started that could quickly get out of hand. Then it becomes much harder to end. If we could gauge people's reactions, it would be easier to open up to them, within limits.

Seems like the only answer is to buy property surrounded on 3 sides (or as many sides as possible) by a perpetual preserve or water. But with the water, someone could moor a houseboat or build some type of floating home in your direct line of sight. I too prefer my privacy. I don't bother people and I don't like to be bothered. I don't mind speaking but I don't offer that as a license to try to get to know me. I believe that over time, we can incidentally learn what we need to know about people. Then we can better judge if a closer, limited acquaintance would be ok.

I like sitting outside and walking in nature. I hate it when someone(s) is looking in my face whenever I step outside my door. Most times I just don't want to talk, at all. I don't want to have to speak. I like to sit, drink my coffee, be alone, think and enjoy. I like peace. I don't like disturbance or drama. I don't like people prying, borrowing or watching. šŸ˜„

In the type of world that we live in, experience brings wariness and wisdom. Though this is a senior forum and all have lived and learned, some may think that what I and others have shared is weird, unfair, judgemental. I say it's common sense. I haven't been through all that I have in life for nothing.

No I don't agree with that - waving at someone is just being friendly, not invasive and not a slippery slope to 'quickly getting out of hand'

some people live on mountains all their lives and get a lot of peace and fleece and lambs?
