MY Local Aldi show us yours...

Every time I get mad at the self-check machines I swear to myself that I'm going to start doing all my shopping at Aldi's (they don't have self-check yet in my town.) Alas it could never be. Aldi's is nice for surprise deals or a gallon of milk, but my regular weekly shopping includes many things they don't carry -- zucchini, quality whole wheat bread, Gerber's baby food, plant based foods, Dove chocolates, etc.

yes this is one of the reasons I stopped shopping in Aldi.. for the reason you state that they don't carry lots of food items I would usually buy. that and the prices have risen fast at least here in the Uk.. and are not too far behind the big Chains now...

However if I want to buy just enough for a few days.. Bread, ( which is significantly cheaper in Aldi) fruits.. ( limited stock of fresh fruit) milk ..hams, eggs.. cheeses.. etc.. and toilet rolls which again are cheaper than the bigger chains ..then I'll got o Aldi... otherwise, I rarely go now and prefer to shop at Tesco or M&S

I have an Aldi, a couple of years old, and I've only been there once. It was ok. Selection was limited from what I'm used to at the other stores I frequent. It's really close by too.

I just never think to go. It's not on my normal route of places I go....so it's kinda like 'outta sight outta mind'

Our store is the same... it's the opposite direction to where I usually go to shop.. so I had to make a concerted effort to go there.. and I did while the prices were significantly lower than our Major Supermarkets.. now they're not.. I don't go...

Yes I do & you're right about the European products. My uncle in Germany always talks about Lidl. One of those stores was supposed to be built in the next county, but some thing else was put in there instead. So far they are all on the east coast in the U.S.
I remember ALDI from way back, over 20 years ago, in Cincinnati. When it first arrived, it was mostly canned foods and very cheap. It didn't offer much items to choose from. But it has grown. More recently, I have been buying from the store because, like @hollydolly said, it is cheap but the quality is not cheap. They have great cheese selections. Their meats and produce are great. Even their $1.00 eggs are as fine as the organic eggs (taste and orange color). However, if you want 10 different flavors of tea or a certain brand, you might want to go to your local grocery store.

We have to bring our own bags or buy them there, which saves money for them.

I didn't know how large the company was until I visited the Netherlands with my son in 2019 and saw an ALDI store on almost every block. It was THE store there. I was impressed.

More recently, next to our ALDI store, they have built a Lidl store. I like ALDI better. More selections.
I don't have a photo because I have not been shopping recently. It does look like the other ones posted here.

yes we had the same experience.. we had Lidl first which was drab and cheap but verrry cheap quality, then along came Aldi ( about 30 years ago... and they were also cheap.. and dingy...and both got a certain type of customer... and the majority wouldn't shop there for fear of being seen in such a dowdy down at heel store...

All that changed when Aldi pulled it's socks up.. and started selling good quality items in brand new purpose built superstores( altho' not their own brand food, that's still horrible ).. and left Lidl's for some years in the Dust... it took Lidl quite a few years to realise they were about to lose all their custom if they didn't start cleaning up their act...

Now , I actually prefer Lidl because it carries a higher quality variety in many things, but more cheaply..

For example I can't get smoked trout in Aldi, but I can get it in Lidl for a 3rd of the price of the Big 4 Supermarket chains.. I can get thick fresh Steak for 1/2 the price.. ( Aldi steak is not good ), and generally their fresh meat is of a much better quality...also Lidl have a much bigger variety of fresh fruit.

The only problem is that there's no Lidl near me..

Aldi is to start its first-ever pizza delivery service across three cities on Tuesday, October 3, serving up its brand-new Ultimate Takeaway range. Customers can pre-order pizzas for just £3.99 each, no delivery cost incurred.

With a medium Meateor pizza from Domino’s currently setting shoppers back £20.99, plus a £2.50 delivery fee, the service can save pizza lovers more than £19 per pizza delivered.

Launching across key student locations across the UK - Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff - to coincide with Fresher’s Week, pizza fans within selected postcodes will be able to pre-book their delivery timeslot via the dedicated website - aldipizzadelivery.co.uk – from today Monday, September 18.

Within the brand-new Ultimate Takeaway range are three Domino’s-inspired flavours: The Meaty One (inspired by Meateor), The Banger (inspired by Absolute Banger) and The Texas Style BBQ Chicken & Bacon (inspired by Texas BBQ).

The delivery service will allow customers to select up to two of these new flavours to be delivered hot to their door. The range, which is Aldi’s most Domino’s-like pizza offering yet, is launching in stores nationwide from October 9, meaning those who don’t manage to bag a delivery slot can also get a 'pizza the action'.

“With prices of takeaways soaring, we’re excited to be able to offer shoppers delicious pizzas at a fraction of the price of expensive high-street chains. The quality ingredients and affordable price of the Ultimate Takeaway range will no doubt change people’s idea of the supermarket pizza.
