My new canes

I love a cane with a "statement." My first cane was called a "Bubba Stick." It has a solid brass horse hame for a handle. I've had it for years, and still get compliments. There is only one screw holding the handle onto the cane. I get tired of trying to re-secure it. I got another cane, made out of polypropylene. It has a similar look, but the handle and main cane are all one piece. I didn't use it for awhile because I needed to buy a saw to cut off one inch. Then I wanted to attach a hook or something so I could have a wrist strap. I put that off for awhile till I find the right hardware, and then find my drill bits.

I'm tired of waiting, so I already ordered another cane. This one is made of Hazlewood!

Thanks, Pecos. My second cane is solid. I've seen videos where someone swung it like a bat, and shattered an entire watermelon. The new wooden one will likely be just as sturdy. I mainly got these particular canes for style and substance (solid). Yeah it's also nice to have a self defense weapon! 😁

I like the idea of a statement cane. I’ve seen some really nice one. Something that I want to do is carve my own.
My husband and were saving suitable sticks but I forgot what they were for and threw them away. That forgetting thing is a bit annoying.

That’s a nice cane. A good weapon is right. I’ll add that to my hair sticks.
Great idea.

Keesha, believe me, I know about forgetting things. One big for me is "out of sight, out of mind!" Aunt Marg, wow, that is one awesome cane. It must weigh a ton. I'd be afraid to use it... Hang it on the wall as a decoration! Devi, I've seen many canes on Amazon that look like those Hercule Poirot canes! I bought my first cane from Bubba Stick.com.... they've since changed their name. I love my BubbaStick. Unfortunately, that handle is held on with only one screw. It's loose when I walk. I just decided to retire the stick for awhile and try some new ones.

I have a 'Hurrycane' with a good griping handle .... gives good support.

Hubby has a cane we bought at an auto swap meet..

Its different shades of wood with what looks like a hand saw handle.
When we are out someone will tell him ,'nice cane'.

At one of the fall festivals we attend , I saw a really colorful cane.
The wood must have been dyed different colors while still green,, then twisted around.
Like a candy cane.

I was so struck by the different colored canes that I never noticed what the handle part was like.
I did notice the price , as I thought about buying one for hubby,,$80 & up in price.

For those who like canes, perhaps you can tell me what Glass canes were used for in the bye gone day?

I've been looking at the various forms of Hurry canes. I might need something like that once I get my knee replacement. It's much easier to just let them stand on their own if you need to do something else. I usually add a ring or something to allow me to attach the cane to my "man bag," when I'm not using it. Then I want a strap so I can sling it around my wrist. The cane will slip, but hopefully not drop. I had one of the "bull canes" for awhile. No one said anything about that cane. Maybe it's because they knew how the original bull canes were made. Mine was made of polypropylene and they called it a "self defense cane." I gave it away when I moved from Maine to Minnesota. It was just one more thing to fuss about if I brought it with me. I actually had a huge giveaway for my neighbors. I kept bringing stuff downstairs to add to the giveaway table. I even gave away two window air conditioners! My neighbors really loved me for the giveaway! It was nice to see them smile.

The canes are mainly walking aids. They also help me if I need to kneel and get back up. I just hold onto the cane and lift myself up. I like the fact that they would be good for self defense. To be honest, I'd rather avoid a dangerous situation than fight out of it. In past years I was robbed, and attacked by a street gang. Even 30+ years since those incidents, I remain nervous out in potentially stressful situations. Fortunately I've lived in very good, peaceful areas in the past 20+ years. Oh, and my size helps! I'm maybe 5"10" and weigh 286 pounds. I have a booming voice.

Until you mentioned glass canes, I had never before heard of them, but check out this beauty.

Those glass canes are indeed beautiful. I have to be careful with canes. At 287 (app) pounds, I'm theoretically over the limit for most canes.

So beautiful they are.

I'm thinking having several on display under specialty lighting would make for a wonderful conversation arrangement.

The cane swords have a certain appeal, but would most likely put you in jail. It would be hard to hide the sword part. Many people like to take my can and hold it, etc. They'd find the sword for sure.

Hi Ron, good to see you again and am happy you're getting the canes you like and need for safety. Take care and be safe! :)

Thanks, SeaBreeze. I hope I'm not alienating people by posting so many messages... Take care.
