My 'Prep' for the apocalypse

I'm an advocate of cutting the cable but didn't arrive at that decision until after I changed cable companies and locked myself into a 2 year contract with a satellite service. My TV service is the most basic viewing. I get all the home shopping and DIY shows along with a grundle of reality shows. I was raised 'mormon' and at one time bought into their 'food storage' commandment. It's a sound concept and one I feel everyone should adopt based upon their needs and expectations, but in moderation.

I have been watching; Mountain Men, Life Below Zero, Doomsday Preppers among others. I decided that Alaska is not high on my destination list. I'm a fair-weather camper. It looks like if we get into global freezing I'm history. I sit, analyze and rate the 'Preppers' along with the producers, (whom happen to be 'mormon' and from Central Utah, go figure). They range from the caveman methods to the multi-million dollar mountain hideaway. Their families have weekend drills, archery practice with straight bows (I guess they haven't heard of the compound bow), role playing attempts to breach the walls of the impregnable fortresses designed by the participants. Some use primitive weapons and others are stocking up on cannons and AK47's. Others have surveillance equipment that rivals NSA. Some food storage methods are a breeding grounds for food borne diseases. They plan to drink water from sources that would be considered off limits for most 3rd world countries. Their teenage children are running around the forests dressed in camo gear carrying weapons that are banned in most civilized countries, their preschool children are learning to flip a makeshift arrow into a running deer at breakneck speeds. It makes my pleasure camping a risky endeavor.

I guess I'll stick with what I know, go to Costco and hit all the free food sample carts. Stock up on toilet paper and use it for barter, everyone will welcome a fresh roll of paper.

Fortunately; I don't think I will live long enough; but if I do, I am with you all the way....lots of batteries and candles already in stock!

We have candles, battery-free flashlights, water filter pump, generator, etc., we have most of our supplies because we've always been into camping. Some of those preppers are wasting precious years of their life preparing for something that may come along, while not cherishing the time they have here on this earth. I think everyone should have enough food and water on hand to survive for awhile if there is no electricity, water, etc. Lol, I always buy TP when it's on sale, that's something that will never go to waste, as we'll use it until we die.
