My primary suddenly stopped my pain meds because he said I used someone else’s urine, and accused me of selling my pain meds

I’m 65 and suffer severe leg and back pain from spinal stenosis and neuropathy. My primary accused me of using someone else’s urine and flat out accused me of selling my pain meds. He immediately stopped my Tramadol causing me to go through severe withdrawal. It’s been 7 months now and my pain is horrible. I told him I am not an addict nor do I sell the meds that I need. I suffer so badly day and night due to the leg, back and feet pain. I need to know what rights I have and to what extent, legally, can this doctor spread this accusation to my other doctors, pharmacy and hospital? I am planning on finding another physician, especially since this doctor has always treated me like a foolish old woman when I would go to him for health concerns. I’m concerned a new primary won’t help me because this doctor made false accusations towards me.

Why did you stay with this hideous doctor for 7 months after the event? Do you live in such a rural area that this doctor is the only one? If I found out a doctor was labeling me to other doctors, etc., I would: get a med malpractice attorney pronto. Your doctor is not allowed to spread information; client-doctor privilege, especially without proof. His assistant may have mixed up your label with another patient regarding the urine sample.

Welcome to the forum Tink.
Deep Breath.
That’s quite the situation you are in.
I’d certainly find yourself a different doctor
In 2007 I had a transport truck hit me, sending me flying. Tramacet was a drug I was on which isn’t as strong as the drug you are discussing here but I had to take myself off it. It was so strong and addictive. Hopefully this isn’t happening to you.
It really messed me up.

Good luck on whatever choice you make. 🍀

So sorry you are going through such angst with pain and the doctor. Please find another one. They are not permitted to gossip about you but I don't know if yours has or not.

The first thing I would do is file a complaint with your state's Medical Board. They may not do much (they're doctors too), but if there are other complaints about him, they may stop him from hurting others.
I've met a couple of doctors & dentists like that. They probably put patients down to feel better about themselves. Once a dentist prescribed Codeine/Tylenol for me after a root canal. When that didn't help, he phoned the pharmacy & prescribed Hydrocodone.
When I went back to the pharmacy to fill it, the pharmacy clerk said, "I don't feel comfortable filling two opioid prescriptions in one day, so I won't fill it." I was in terrible pain at the time.
I asked him what medical school he graduated from. He said, "I'm not a doctor." I said, "Well, my doctor prescribed this, so you either fill it or I'll have to speak to your supervisor & let him know his clerk is practicing medicine." He filled it.
I said, "Thanks, moron."

sounds like our drama on corrie -selling the urine ---------
report the doc soon as possible to the surgery manager ok 'have it noted ! the changed doctor ' or send e mail to
medical board stating what he said ………….

Likely not "gossip", but put into the permanent medical record for all medical professionals to see.

@Tink -- contact your state medical board and file a complaint. Sounds to me like the lab could have possibly mixed up your "sample" with another patient. Good luck.

May just be the term I used at the time to mean spread the word. But the professionals do "gossip!" I've heard them. Also they may not put it in the medical record for all to see!🧐

Yes, how could he know you used someone else's urine?
In many ways. Urine samples detect your sex; if you are menopausal or not, etc. Not being a medical person I'm sure there are many many other things that could be gleaned from a urine sample, just to lazy to look them up.

i heard if you sue a doctor or report them no other dr will see you- they all talk to each other and they are afraid it will happen to them

And how did the doc go from some else's urine to you selling your pills?
I once ran out of my anti-depressant. I asked the nurse to check to see if I could get a refill and found myself called in for a pee test. Was so weird. They jumped to the conclusion I was selling pills instead of reading my history and finding the doc forgot to send in new refills to the pharmacy after my last visit. Couple of times I had to have the pharmacist talk to the doc for me too because the doc didn't believe the writing on my chart. Sounds like selling prescription meds is a big money-making scheme amongst the senior population.

The doctors are supposed to put you on a drug to minimize withdrawal symptoms. Tramadol withdrawal symptoms generally last between 5-7 days.

How do you know I'm using someone else's urine, would be my next question. It would bother me what they found to give him that impression.
We had to test urine samples for drugs and temperature of sample must meet a criteria. Some persons would bring hidden samples from others that were clean and substitute for theirs, it never worked. That is why some companies would require that sample be given in presence of an individual. That wouldn't work for me because if someone was standing there watching me, we would be there a long time. lol

I have been in the medical field for the last 22 years.

Numerous checks, double checks, and triple checks are followed in pain management. With all the national exposure and FDA investigations, physicians are very careful and precise. They follow a very strict protocol now more than ever with pain medication. They work in conjunction with pharmacists and both watch and identify any and all inconsistencies. Their medical license is at stake. Rarely are mistakes made or accusations unfounded.

If you suspect an issue you take it up with your state medical board.

I see you have been checking in, but have not yet responded to anyone here. Just wonder how things are going for you.
How does everyone know this isn't a troll? First, there is more to this story ---- the doc has some reason, even if wrong, (assuming story is true), for suspecting. Anyone think the doc walked into the appointment and just started wailing on this person out of the blue?
2nd: Does everyone know "Tink's" is the largest retailer of animal urine. Coincidence? And yeah, Tink is a female rapper too.

I was actually just trying to see if Tink would respond. I mentioned this thread in that other one...about the non English speaking lady. Both are trolls.

What? My goodness, I never knew about this as I am not hunter. "Tink" as in Tinkles, LOL

"Because a few months ago, the state of New York proposed regulations that would ban hunters’ use of deer urine lures to prevent the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). (If you’re not sure what CWD is, go here, here or here.) "
