My primary suddenly stopped my pain meds because he said I used someone else’s urine, and accused me of selling my pain meds

I have been in the medical field for the last 22 years.

Numerous checks, double checks, and triple checks are followed in pain management. With all the national exposure and FDA investigations, physicians are very careful and precise. They follow a very strict protocol now more than ever with pain medication. They work in conjunction with pharmacists and both watch and identify any and all inconsistencies. Their medical license is at stake. Rarely are mistakes made or accusations unfounded.

Thanks for the best laugh I've had this year.

If you suspect an issue you take it up with your state medical board.

Canada’s medical coverage is federally paid for so the above statements don’t necessarily apply to us above your border.

How does everyone know this isn't a troll? First, there is more to this story ---- the doc has some reason, even if wrong, (assuming story is true), for suspecting. Anyone think the doc walked into the appointment and just started wailing on this person out of the blue?
2nd: Does everyone know "Tink's" is the largest retailer of animal urine. Coincidence? And yeah, Tink is a female rapper too.

Seriously! I am a 65 year old woman. I’ve been on Tramadol for pain for several years. Prior to that, another doctor put me on morphine, which helped my pain, although after 30 days I requested to be taken off of it due to my age and I felt it was too drastic a medication at this point in my life. I’m sorry you think I’m not genuine, but that is your problem. I only wrote here for support, not criticism. I haven’t been online much lately, due to a family emergency.

Of course, there is more to my story. I wasn’t about to post my personal details, due to people that are simply online to look for victims. Shame on you!!!

The doctors are supposed to put you on a drug to minimize withdrawal symptoms. Tramadol withdrawal symptoms generally last between 5-7 days.

As I was going through the horrible withdrawal, I called and messaged my primary, via phone calls and their portal, and was told that I had to do it on my own, they wouldn’t help. I am desperate to find a new primary, but I’m concerned this problem will follow me. I have had 3 bad falls in the past year, and my last one, recently was pretty bad. My orthopedic surgeon (that did my knee replacement a few years ago) thought I had fractured my hip. He soon discovered that I have a severe muscle tear in my hip. He put me on bed rest, which hasn’t helped. My ortho has told me to take ibuprofen, which does nothing, and to follow up with my primary. This makes me feel like my primary must have confided in my other doctors, insinuating that I’m a drug addict. Dear Lord, how can this doctor sleep at night. So with support from my children, I am determined to get to the bottom of this and clear my name. I have no car and I’m on a fixes income. I’m perfectly content because I have all that I need and I can pay my bills. Who accuses an old woman of using someone else’s urine then turns around and says I’m selling my medications! I’m on several meds, mostly meds for Menieres Disease and a stomach disease that I have. I’m a respectable Christian and do my best to be an honest person.

I recall all too well the reaction of a couple of posters, who, when I was hospitalized a couple of years ago, decided it was all a scam. Even when my then fiancé, Philly, also a member, debunked their claims, they remained resolute. Their poison caused enormous pain to myself and Philly. I certainly hope there is no one here who would make the same mistake. I choose to support Tink.
Doctors are human, they too are subject to negative behaviour, just like the rest of humanity.

Before going in to the bathroom to collect my urine sample, I asked the nurse, if someone could go in with me - she claimed they don’t do that! I also asked if they would hold my purse for me, heck no! You see a few weeks earlier, I was at the same primary care’s office, to give a urine sample, as I thought was routine. I couldn’t pee, so I drank a couple bottles of water. Finally an hour later I was able to pee. I gave them the cup, which they refused to label, even after I insisted. I went home and a week later I was told to come in for another test. I was happily to comply. Although I asked what happened to the first test and they responded that they were having problems with the lab. Now, at that time I asked for a blood test, to be done at my local hospital lab. They flat out refused!!! After the second urine test, when I was accused of using someone else’s urine, I asked why would they think that! The nurse indicated that the temperature of the urine wasn’t right - and they knew I was using someone else’s urine. I offered to immediately take another urine test, or heck why not a blood test! They had an excuse for everything I asked. I commented on the fact that she didn’t even know it was my sample because there was another sample sitting next to mine? NEITHER HAD THE APPROPRIATE LABEL. After many requests for a label, they just kept refusing - almost as if they were setting me up. I offered to have them do a pill count of my pain meds that were in my purse. I took them because when I was asked to do a second test I felt something wasn’t right.

I’ve been in so much pain since my primary took me off my pain meds. I suffer severe leg, back and feet pain. To be honest, I really don’t want to go back on pain meds, for many reasons (i.e., restless leg, stomach cramps), but I want to relieve the pain so I can enjoy doing things with my children, grands and great-grandchildren again. I’m sorry some of you think this is all a lie, but what reason would I have to share my personal issues publicly. Like i said I’m on a lot of other meds for other health conditions and I’m afraid if I change doctors, or cannot find another primary to take me, then I’m screwed for my refills. Thank you for your generous support.

Tink I'm sorry you're in such pain, and in such a predicament, and I can't help in any way because I live in a different country.... but I wish you everything you wish for yourself, but most of all pain reduction and a new dotor ... take care!!

Thank you so much for your support! I’m not able to talk to my sister about this, because her problems are always much worse than mine, I’m being sarcastic. She’s a one-upper and always makes everything about her, as she constantly blames me for everything that goes wrong. So, thank you for your help.

Which is another reason I don’t buy it.

You don’t buy what? That a 65 year old woman was fraudulently accused of something she didn’t do! Senior citizens need much more healthcare than younger individuals (in most cases) - and we suffer more health issues requiring treatment or medication. Because my primary is a medical doctor, is that supposed to mean he’s telling the truth, and I lied! Given his profession, that does not make him 100% honest. No one is perfect, except God, of course! God made us all the same, with plenty of flaws!! And of course, He made lawyers too, and we all know what that tells you.

So Tink...have you come to any decision as to what to do next?...all of this sounds like a nightmare for you..:(

You don't say where you live, Tink? Is it possible for you to switch doctors, medical groups, or even medical plans? I cannot imagine how difficult and frustrating this must be. My mother had terrible spinal stenosis and the pain laid her flat. Many in this group are familiar with excruciating chronic pain, some from first-hand experience, others from standing by someone we love.

Wishing you the best.

Back in late 1973 when I only had a few months left on my enlistment the Air Force decided to start “The random drug testing program.” The way it worked a random two digit number would be generated and everyone on base whose social security number ended with those two digets would have to report to the base hospital and submit a urine sample. I was stationed at Columbus AFB Mississippi as a 90250 Medical Service Specialist in the Physical Exam section and so I got stuck with that.

I was instructed to go into the bathroom and directly observe the dude peeing into the cup. I was to make sure that urine came out of his ***** and not some little tube next to it which I was told that some people would do in order to use someone elses urine. I guess the idea was you could have a little plastic bag of urine under your clothes and somehow squeeze that through a tube into the cup.

Are you kidding me? There was no way I was bend down and watch some dudes urine come out of his ***** and into that cup. So I’d just hand them the cup, go into the bathroom with them, turn by back to them and say “fill it up”.

Columbus AFB had about 3,000 people stationed there. Mostly dudes. So on any given day there would be about 1% or 30 people on the list. On the rare occasion when I got a female in the random sample I had to get one of the female medics to go in the room with them. But back then there weren’t all that many women in the Air Force.

Anyway this went on for about two weeks. But when a couple of old Master Sergeants and a Lieutenant Colonel got called in, they must have complained and then the criteria for selection was changed to include only people under the age of 27. Can’t have those old lifers having to take a drug test can you?

The worst part of this drug testing crap was that every day there would be a few dudes that said they just couldn’t go. So I’d have to have them sit there and drink water or whatever until they could. It got to be a real pain in the butt because I was supposed to turn those damned samples in by noon. And I had my other regular job to do also.

One day I got tired of waiting on this dude. Was he holding out because he knew he was positive? Or was it true that he just couldn’t pee? Quite frankly, I did not care. I only have a couple of months to go in the Air Force and I don’t need this crap! So I told him “Don’t worry about it, you can go.”

And I filled his damned cup up myself and turned it in.

Suddenly my job got a whole lot easier! Can’t go? Only can get a little dribble? No problem, you can go! Soon I started getting organized. I’d hold my morning piss until I got to work and I’d fill up a half a dozen or so of these little cups and have them all ready to go to help out anybody that needed it. :)

Towards the end there I think one of the higher up Sergeants was getting a little suspicious, but nobody ever called me on it. So on 19 Feb. 1974 I got my honorable discharge and never looked back. :)

And to anyone thinking about turning me in, the statute of limitations has long since passed. :)

Turn you in? I was thinking of recommending you for a pee medal!

As for me, Tink stands for Tinkerbell!! Im 65, and have been a Tinkerbell fan since I was 20. It’s a shame it offends you.

Perhaps if you properly introduced yourself to the group, people wouldn't think you're a troll. I didn't believe your opening post either and I'm still having a hard time believing the story, seems a bit too bizarre to me. No worries, I'm not offended. Welcome to the forum.
