My son battling California wildfires

I've been following this on TV. My thoughts are with everyone involved.
I saw this first hand on our trip to Oregon. There was a fire and it just so happened some of the firefighters were staying in the motel we were.
Some of them were coming back for a rest and they looked so tired and worn out. I don't know how they move around with all that heavy gear.

@Ronni, wishing safety for your son, sending positive thoughts his way. I don't blame you for worrying about him, it's serious business and his job is very dangerous. Thanks to him for risking his life to help others, all firefighter deserve appreciation for everything they do for us. There are some wildfires going here in Colorado, but California has suffered greatly with fires and other disasters for many years, my heart goes out to all who are there.

Talked to Corey for his birthday...wished him a happy one. He took off for his birthday but is heading out again tomorrow to fight more forest fires 🔥 😭

Help me not freak out guys....I know he’s trained, I know he won’t put himself in harms way, intellectually I understand all that. But this is my kid!!😳🙁

Hardest place for a mother, there’s no getting around it. They may leave your house but never your heart. Lord, please protect all the brave firefighters and help those who wait at home for them to return to have the peace only You can give ::hugs::

Happy Birthday to Corey! Good you got to talk to him Ronni. He has a dangerous and important job, of course you're worried about him, but like you say, he's smart and careful. Think positive, for both of your sakes. 🧡

How many hours a day or night do they work? Or, what are their shifts like? I knew a firefighter in the west that when he fought wildfires, he worked some weird hours.

Happy Birthday to Corey!

@Ronni, if he has half your brains and get-up-and-go, he's going to be fine. I know how you feel; even the slightest sufferings of our children hurts us, but keep focused. Don't let your mind drift off to somewhere you don't need to be. Hold fast. 🌹

20 miles is nothing. As we left town in 2018 and were at the top of the mountain,we saw a small plume of smoke waaaaay off in the distance, many.many miles away. Then we went around another turn and saw another.By the next day, those fires had converged on our home-well,the driveway.I was stunned that they could have traveled that far that fast. I have decided that if we get anything closer than where it is now,we will be loading up the car. Getting woken up in the middle of the night and possibly having no power does not appeal to me at all!
You're right Mr. R. The way these fires are moving, 20 miles seems like nothing. She's been blessed so far; I hope that continues. I hope you don't find yourself in a situation where you have to load up that car, but at least, if it comes to that you have a plan. Stay safe and well.

From The NY Times:

Fires in California have forced more than 119,000 people from their homes.
Firefighters are struggling to get a handle on the 560 wildfires burning throughout the state, scorching more than 900,000 acres, including a treasured redwood forest. The smoke has reached Nebraska. Above, Healdsburg, in wine country.
About a dozen major fires continue to grow, particularly in the north, where two groupings are now among the largest in state history. More dry thunderstorms could make things worse. Gov. Gavin Newsom said he was receiving help even from the East Coast and Australia.
Why does California have so many wildfires? There are four drivers; climate change figures prominently.

Here in the East, we hear that the Santa Ana winds and the winds off of the ocean help to spread the fires.
