Putin is a deranged individual who thinks nothing of murdering people by the thousands. Russia was not in the slightest danger from Ukraine either, but he chose to go to war. The world is in a precarious position right now, and saying it could never happen is naive. I agree with @Harry Le Hermit post, except that I think it could be the intentional act of a madman!Seriously, I don't know why people are thinking like that ?
Putin has absolutely no reason to use nuclear weapons. Russia is not in the slightest danger.
Moreover, Putin knows that the entire civilized world would treat Russia as a pariah. I suspect that even those who support Putin would treat not only him, but the entire country as an outcast.
We should not pray for victory, but for peace!Excellent question and point.
Back just after 9/11, my then active duty Navy son was part of Battle Group that had been on way to 'routine deployment' in Persian Gulf. I can't remember how long before he was able to contact us via email.
When he did i relayed a message to him from my Sister K that she was praying for him. His response, which i did share with her:
"I would rather she pray for us all,on all sides especially the 'leaders' of countries that they show some sense and concern for the people of the world.". Later that year he came across a prayer some general or government leader had made to that effect, saying he'd probably read that prayer in the past and the thought stuck with him as a good one.
I consider meditations can be prayers. When in that mode, whether 'praying' for an individual, a family in crisis or larger groups, my goal is the healthiest (physically/mentally/emotionally) for each/all concerned. Not for a certain outcome. I do not presume to know what is best for others much less the world or all humankind, tho i certainly offer my opinions on their/our options at times, and express my feelings.
I also ask for inspiration about anything i can actually contribute to a good outcome for all. When it's individuals or a family thing sometimes relieving them of mundane daily stressors helps them think more clearly and find a way to resolve their issues.
I don't think there's some clearing house somewhere that weighs the values of prayers, which to answer and how (yes, no, partially, fully?). But i do believe that thoughts can effect this reality, if for no other reason then that they change how we behave. So I'm supportive of any attempt to get as many people as possible focused on what is best for all life in this realm, not just one nation, one people. If that's their intent and hope i don't care what God they pray to or language they use.
As Jimi Hendrix said, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace."
Keeping in mind that Peace is more than just the absence of confict. It means the safety and well being of the people. We should not pray for victory, but for peace!
I think is so true....we have gone from stone tools to power tools 4 or 5 times now...Sometimes I think what is going on is by design, as it has happened over and over again. Sooner or later, another civilization will fall and we begin anew, with all the flaws we inherit.
I agree. We need to look beyond ourselves and egos! great post. The world is in a state of vulnerability now. The weapons being prepared in varied countries
will cause the formation of war preparedness. This lets the formation of thought to conceive the destruction.
These thoughts have set in motion this unmentionable agony.
A creation of the mind is powerful.
World War Three is now not only eminent. It has begun.
The thoughts of men are more powerful than anyone on Earth can imagine.
The love sent by the souls of Earth can change the events of man.
The love sent by the souls can put off the wars to other times.
The most urgent place of war on the Earth is China.
China will move to inhabit new areas. The movement will not be peaceful.
They will attack many places and will not be averted.
These souls have planned this to occur before they came to Earth.
The thought sent into the world is of enormous worth,.
This is not to be a prayer for oneself, but for all life on Earth.
God does not cause war or these occurrences.
God wills the thoughts of man to manifest into action upon the Earth.
Cry out not for ourselves but for the pain of humanity.
let your prayers be to help mankind.
World suffering is not necessary. The suffering is not a way of God.
Come into courage. into strong, powerful thoughts.
The world is not safe now. The war has begun.
The world will now see destruction as it has never before seen.
The government of the U.S. will have no money to hold up to the people.
Money in the U.S. will have no worth., no value.
The Mideast will war with America. Oil will be the reason.
North Korea will send nuclear armament to the surrounding islands, including Japan.
Russia will fight for armament and will join with China and Iran against the United States.
Heavenly entities will not interfere with what has been set in motion.
The world will be in a war as it has not before known.
All the world will be at war.
It won't last long. Famine will be widespread and water will be a worldwide concern.
This war will be horrific in display..
This will not change by any method., but thoughts and prayers may deter action.
This is already in movement on the Earth and will occur.
When the world loves again and gasps at the terrors and pains wrought upon
lands and people, war will end.
as always "IMO.
Mark Twain wrote a paper called, "The War Prayer". This depicts your thought in perfection! What if the Russians are praying for victory?
Let's hope not hey, (though its a concern to use a ridiculously inadequate phrase!).Reading all these posts is interesting
I see why it won't be very long before God comes
If He waited too long, we'd annihilate ourselves

I admire men with original thought as yourself!
and, The word "God" was taken out of the National Prayer Declaration for the United states of America. 5-07-2021In World War I, the Prussians had "Gott mit uns" (God with us) stamped on their belt buckles.
LOVE,LOVE,LOVE Bob Dylan! Reminds me of Woody Guthrie.
Off topic, but I love that phrase.a twig of flotsam
The answer is Greed.I keep saying to myself the old adage - "Why can't people just get along?"
I think not enough are absorbed and avoidance is why the Bastards win.Personally, for last 3+ decades I like a twig of flotsam in the immense Mississippi River, have avoided politics that I view as hopeless................
.................Despite the above, I will occasionally review why I hate politics that so many are absorbed over despite little influence. The following read ought be enough for most to dig a hole and live like a mole.
Very interesting post @JonSR77 !First of all, I would like to thank everyone for engaging in this thread, in this discussion. This is clearly a very distressing time for us all, following the news. Engaging in the discussion is, for me, a way to get some release from the stress. So, I definitely appreciate that.
And, you know, I want to wish all you nice folks, some kind of peace through the emotional mess that this situation has created.
I know that religion is a controversial subject. I am a believer. My mother and brother are not. My father was not either. So, I had that difficulty, right in my own family. Also, I have respect for those who believe and respect for those who do not believe.
I just want to offer my encouragement, as someone who does believe in God, about this situation.
I believe God is fully omnipotent. That there is no challenge to His power possible. And that he can change any situation at any time.
That the world is filled with great suffering certainly makes it difficult to believe in a caring and compassionate God. But, I believe that is, in fact, the case. And the real key there is that this life is just a very small part of a much larger existence. Our bodies die, but our souls do not die. Our bodies suffer, but through that suffering, we earn the right to an incredible, powerful spiritual reward.
Now, that is my belief and the belief of others. And I understand if it is not your own. I just want to encourage you of the possibility that there is always hope.
And now, I will offer a few extremely weird "coincidences" in history.
During the War of 1812, America decided its best defense against the British was defense against the British forces in Canada. This was a glaring error and allowed British troops to take control of Washington, DC. The war was basically lost. How did we win the war? Well, we didn't win the war, a tornado won the war. All of a sudden, an extremely powerful tornado hit Washington, DC, killing 5000 British troops and driving them from the city. How many tornadoes, that powerful have hit Washington, DC? I am not positive, but I am pretty sure that is the only one of that kind of power in recorded history. Coincidence? No, I don't believe it was.
During the Revolutionary War, the British sent over some very advanced Scottish snipers. One of them got General George Washington in his sights. Washington was done. But the sniper just changed his mind. He was so enamored of the great dignity of Washington's presence that he just could not pull the trigger. So, what changed his mind? Just coincidence? Or the intercession of God? What is the statistical possibility that a highly trained, elite military sniper, would just, out of the blue, decide not the kill the number one enemy of Britain? I don't think the statistics bear out that being at all likely.
July 4th, 1826 was the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It is also noted for something else. It is the day that both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died. Even though separated by a large age difference, both men died on the same day. Both men died on July 4th. And both men died on the July 4th that was the 50th anniversary of the founding of the nation. What are the odds of that happening. I did a quick overview of the math...and the possibility of all those things happening are easily far less than one in a billion, or even one in a trillion.
And these are just two examples...that push the boundaries of statistical possibility and, you know, may just be a hint of God's underlying power.
Again, I do apologize if the discussion of religion is annoying or difficult for folks.
And I do just want to wish everyone a peaceful heart through all this tragedy and misery.

I don't think you're wrong, @Pepper.I think not enough are absorbed and avoidance is why the Bastards win.
For what it's worth, James Monroe also died on the Fourth of July, although a few years later.Very interesting post @JonSR77 !
Your examples of "coincidence vs divine intervention" were skillfully written. I've never heard of the sniper and Gen. Washington before; thanks for talking about it.
BTW, I remember reading about Thomas Jefferson and John Adams and the coincidence of their deaths some time ago. Especially poignant, since they were very close friends, had a falling out but made amends before they died.
On July 4, 1826, at the age of 90, Adams lay on his deathbed while the country celebrated Independence Day. His last words were, "Thomas Jefferson still survives." He was mistaken: Jefferson had died five hours earlier at Monticello at the age of 83.
IMO this was pure coincidence.
Please, no one take offense, but I am so tired of religious debate I just cannot take part. Everyone, please discuss as you wish, but I'll just skip over the religious talk.
I don't think you're wrong, @Pepper.
