My triglycerides are so high! What to do?

I had forgot to go get some more fish oil pills, plus I was fudging on my diet. My triglycerides were 296! So, I am back on a good diet, eating a lot of salmon, crab cakes, and more salmon, and cutting out the sweets and salts and trans fats. There are still a lot of good food out there to eat on a good diet. I love the peanut butter (not hydrogenated oils) on apple slices for a snack. So, if you have any input, that would be great.

What were your triglycerides before and when was the last time you got a test?
I can't recall, I changed primary physicians and the first one was very happy with my blood test, but this one said it was high. I have to say when I go off of eating right and not walking for exercise, they do go up. So, I am a healthy eater. I just got lazy, in my eating and I started going for walks more and eating right. It will go back down in the next 6 months.

Exercise and diet will make a difference, and you'll find out at your next test. Some people have naturally high triglyceride levels.

I only get mine tested annually now, but I suspect mine will be high ( for me) as I've been quite inactive and have been drinking more often. This year especially as a lot of produce I usually eat durning the summer months hasn't been good enough to buy. I'll find out in October.

Last Oct my triglyceride was 33, the previous year 45, the April before that 60. I have noticed my diet does affect my trig. ranging from 66 -33 over the last 7 years. I eat an entirely plant based diet, mostly no added sugar, salt or fats-- but not always. It's just what I do.

My annual well check with my primary doctor is in the summer. Last year, my triglycerides result was 47 and last month it was 39. I eat mostly a plant based diet with a small piece of wild caught fish or chicken. I don't eat restaurant meals except when travelling.

I exercise 6 to 7 days a week. I find that if I don't exercise, I have a guilt trip for the balance of the day. So it works for me to get it done in the morning which makes my day much better physically and mentally.

I snack on a variety of fresh fruits and salt free nuts.

That's encouraging, because, I started walking every morning for about 25 minutes at a public park and I started including cocounut oil on my english muffins (healthy ones). I started eating fish 5 days a week. lots of vegies, and no trans fats or sugars or salts and lot more.

Really fancicoffee13?
That sounds more like your total cholesterol #s. My total is in the 260 range.
I just went this morning and had my #s checked again...it's been awhile.

Sounds like you're making all the necessary changes, good luck!

I am really bent on getting that number back to where it is supposed to be. I even tried whipped coffee! That is taking a tablespoon of butter and a tablespoon of coconut oil and put it in a cup of hot coffee and blend it. Doesn't sound good, but to my surprise it isn't bad at all. And that is literally a measuring cup of hot coffee. Coconut oil in place of crisco or butter has LOTS of benefits!

Are you saying that is what you drink as a beverage? I love coffee and grind my own beans daily. I brew two cups in my Mr. Coffee. No sugar nor cream. I prefer the full flavor.
