I discovered a new park today not too far from my house. It's next to a golf course and EchoStar (Dish network). Here are some pics...

This SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was on display on the EchoStar campus.

I was offered a job there in the late '90s to write software for their set-top box. I got a bad feeling about the environment there, though. It seemed like there were a lot of pissed off people. Later I found out that their developers felt like they were working in a sweat shop, so it's probably good I didn't take the job.

We were saying the same thing the other day, as we drove through a very wealthy neighbourhood.

Unless one had a very large family, I would think it would feel somewhat lonely in a house that size.

Then again .. to each, his own.
Maybe they just have so much money, they don't know what to do with it, so they buy a huge house.

I did a little online sleuthing and found out who lives in that house...

Max and I went to a different park this afternoon. The part where we went is called the Audubon Center, named after James John Audubon for his paintings of birds in the late 19th century and bird conservation. We hardly saw any birds, though. We saw a couple warbling up in a tree along the trail, which might have been warblers, and some crows, but that was about it. I'm thinking about filing a complaint. (kidding :) )

Here are some pics...

You seem to live in an area similar to ours. We're the "peasants" in the area. All I have to do is walk to the next neighborhood that was established in 1929 and there are multi-million dollar homes. A few miles around the lake near our house I can see a replica of Mount Vernon! (The pic is the actual house). The huge, new homes that have been going up by the lake over the past few years actually look like they could accommodate multiple families, never mind large ones.

There are a couple of benefits. It keeps our property values up and our crime low, and we seem to be on the same power grid as the uber-wealthy so we either rarely lose power during storms or it is restored pretty quickly.
