NASA's one-way mission to crash a spacecraft into an asteroid has blasted off from California.
This mission is to demonstrate the world's first planetary defence system by deflecting an asteroid from a potential doomsday collision with Earth.
The so-called DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) spacecraft soared into the night sky from the Vandenberg US Space Force Base, about 150 miles north-west of Los Angeles.
The spacecraft will spend the next 10 months travelling to the target asteroid.

8 ball in the corner pocket...the key to these projects will be to deflect the objects not to blow them up causing untold number of objects to strike the Earth
