In 1932, the one ton statue of Gambrinus was the centerpiece of a massive anti-prohibition parade in Syracuse, which drew thousands of people to protest the ban on alcohol.

The 11-foot statue, taken from the Haberle Brewery, makers of Congress beer, was carried on a railroad car and had a sign reading, "I Stood for Congress for 51 Years; Now Let Congress Stand for Me!".

Gambrinus has been restored and now greets visitors at the Onondaga Historical Museum.

I recall being at a pub during Oktoberfest, standing up and taking our turn singing. I'm pretty certain that I would have had something other than beer in my mug (allergic to hops). It was a lot of fun.

Not very well acquainted with American beers, but when I was working in Middletown , Rhode Island, I frequented a pub called Codlington Brewery that sold great beer.
