My mother's button box provided many hours of entertainment. I loved that button box!

That button box also provided matching buttons for many a skirt, dress, blouse, shirt or pair of pajamas missing one or two and also for something made at home.

I read that little girls in Victorian days liked to build "button strings". The would string buttons on cord and compete with their friends about who had the longer string.

Apparently, you had to ask people for them or find them...no fair going out and buying them.
