National Cousins Day - July 24th

Growing up I had cousins everywhere...in school, in catechism class, down the street, across town, in the next town over, in dance class...everywhere I went there were cousins. In summer we'd all be together at our grandma and grandpa's cottage at the lake, sometimes for a week at a time, sometimes for a weekend, sometimes just for a day.

We all grew up and left for college, for adventure, for military service, for jobs in the city, for a million different reasons and lost touch, even more so now that all our parents are gone. Drat.

There are some great memories of the times we all spent together.

Same here..cousins everywhere.. if I'd stayed in Scotland instead of moving to England when I was a teen.. there might have been a chance I would have inadvertently married a cousin.. there was/is so many of them scattered everywhere..

I grew up with many cousins on my Mom's side of the family. She came from a family of 11 kids. Most of her brothers married 2x's so I had 80 first cousins. Lucky for me on my Dad's side most of my cousins weren't allowed to talk to us so I don't count them on my list.

When I was married to my wife we after about ten years we were doing genealogy and found we have a common relative about four generations back. So then we started saying that we are married cousins although the blood line actually is not connected to us.
