National data base for American Muslims says Donald Trump.

In Iowa Mr. Trump advocated a national data base requiring American Muslims to be registered. When pressed as to whether or not Muslims would be required to "wear" some kind of identification, he refused to reply. Also

unclear, are the consequences if people refuse to comply. Hmm. In a Trump presidency, are Muslims going to sport stylish crescent moon patches? What is next, internment camps? Have we learned nothing from the

targeting of the Jews in Germany? In Canada, Mr. Trump would be arrested and charged for this filth. What is happening in America??????

This is scary stuff, all right. That kind of registry would be unconstitutional as all hell in my opinion, and should NEVER NEVER NEVER under any circumstances be allowed to occur in this country. What's next -- the brown shirts??

Trump is WAY over the line. The problem is not that people are Muslims, but that some are radicalized killers. To say they are all the same is to similar but is worse than saying that all Christians are like those wacko people from down south who were interfering with servicemen's funerals because of some crazy perceived idea that gay people were bringing the wrath of the Lord down on America (or whatever nonsense they were spouting), or those equally wacko crazed murderers who were going around shooting abortion providers.

That kind of talk shows seriously flawed logic (a la "My uncle is a barber and he is Italian, therefore all Italians are barbers and all barbers are Italian"), is just wrong, and is inflammatory and dangerous.

I'm no longer surprised at what comes out of this a***hole's mouth. What I'm shocked at is there are people who still support him.

Not surprised either. A lot of issues and ideas from Trump are on simmering and/or unaddressed/poorly addressed issues . I expected a reactionary response in Europe and the usual rhetoric in the US but what surprised me quite frankly is the way many in the US reacted. Ironically I heard some commentary less than 24 hours after the attacks and they said people will approve just about anything to keep their own butts safe. The commentators went so far as to imply people would demand measures like this. The discussion had started out about surveillance.

But as with any presidential candidate idea they need to get it approved and/or have it scrutinized by a system of checks and balances. Stuff like this won't fly. It might get dangerously close and professional politicians who tout this stuff will poll well but I never see it flying along with alot of other stuff.

Basically pandering.

It seems Trump didn't poo poo this suggestion, not so much he came up with it himself.

It makes me sad to know that so many people in this country buy into Trump's hate-filled, idiotic, pandering nonsense. What does that say about our country that an idiot like this can garner so much support? The only good thing that comes from stuff like this is it creates fodder for the general election, assuming he emerges as the nominee (which I doubt will happen). Still, at this point he speaks for the Republican party (along with that whack-job Carson and others of his ilk) and folks in Hillary's camp must be smiling and planning those TV ads to make him look even more foolish than he already appears.

Yes, the number of people that buy into this nonsense is frighting....I only have to read my Facebook to see how close to home it is. If we cease learning from History's mistakes we're in big trouble.

When did so many tens of millions of Americans become so hateful, intolerant and judgmental? Or did I have my head buried in the sand before?

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up QS. Sad, but true. And......he had that weird name.....and there was something about his father not being an American....and what was it, his birth certificate. :) There are many in this nation who see color first, and the hate and mistrust stems from that.

Absolutely.... I am so embarrassed and disgusted by this.... People who care so MUCH about the unborn... yet will not open their hearts to these children have proven they are NOT true Christians... nor do they really have hearts.

It does break your heart doesn't it? I wonder what the age demographic is around this stuff? I know in my country racist, anti abortion etc attitudes are much less prevalent among younger people. This was very evident in the huge youth vote in the federal election in October.

When I learned he was elected in 2008 I was so happy I cried. I thought there was hope for US. Then the racists came out in full force.

It's not just the idiotic candidates, it's the fact that so many millions support them!

Those idiotic candidates would not exist if there wasn't a group to support them... Yes.. I was pretty naive. When Obama was elected I really believed that America had turned the corner.. That racism and ignorance was on the way out.. How wrong I was.. I had no idea that it was only underground... and around certain kitchen tables.... and the election of that Black man with the funny foreign name would flush out the lowest of the lowest dregs of our society.. These idiotic candidates are succeeding by feeding into the hatred and ignorance... for political gain. I am going to hold on to my belief that when we enter the general election.. the majority of Americans will prove we are not going to dragged down to our lowest common denominator...

I do believe you are right QS. In spite of all the present spewing of extremist right wing filth, I think America will not elect a leader who panders to those wallowing in the shallow end of the gene pool.

I think lots of people have the same thoughts as you've expressed here QS. And fingers crossed for the sake of the next election although this outside watcher isn't terribly optimistic. I haven't had much chance to listen to Bernie Sanders lately so I'm not sure what his stand is on all of this but I don't like Hillary Clinton because she was so smug about what happened in Libya which has now become one of ISIS' staging grounds (or so I've heard).

I just read an article here: https://www.rt.com/usa/322770-sanders-democratic-socialism-fdr/ and I think I like Bernie Sanders. He sounds like a guy with a realistic understanding of history and what a government should be doing.

'...He also called for shifting foreign policy and creating a “new NATO” including Russia.....

.....
Almost everything that FDR did in his day was called socialist by his opponents, but have now become “the fabric of our nation,” Sanders said......

....
Lyndon B. Johnson followed in the footsteps of FDR and came out with measures that were considered radical at the time: Medicare and Medicaid....

....
called for a minimum wage that would allow people to get out of poverty and free education....

.....
We need to create a culture which, as Pope Francis reminds us, cannot just be based on the worship of money,....

.....
“I don’t believe government should own the grocery store down the street or control the means of production, but I do believe that the middle class and the working families who produce the wealth of America deserve a fair deal.”.....

.......
stressing his opposition to foreign policy that revolves around regime change. The United States’ response, Sanders said, must begin with an “understanding of our past mistakes” in foreign policy, referencing regime changes over the past 60 years that have resulted in instability......

......
In his call for unity, the senator said that the Gulf States aren’t pulling their weight when it comes to fighting ISIS or taking in refugees. While nations like Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon have offered considerable military support and have taken in millions of Syrian refugees, countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait have not done the same........

Of course not. But paranoia, xenophobia, and Islamophobia are self fulfilling prophecies, hardly amenable to rationality, never mind compassion and fair play. Scapegoats are handy aren't they?

Is any sort of treatment of Muslims that isn't done for every group acceptable in this country?

Muslims shouldn't be treated differently but a potential terrorist immigrant should be. This all goes back to simply applying and enforcing the laws and systems in place intended to secure the borders and ensure a legitimate immigration process. A potential terrorist should have a special file or be on a watch list. If the intelligence procedure includes using any religion in conjunction with other information to put a person on a watch list or in a data base so be it. Religion itself should not be the only criteria. Perhaps being from or a radical sect or location should be.

Homeland security is not just about Muslims or Syrians when it comes to protecting the country from terrorist immigrants. Any new procedure. law or process should be designed to catch any potential terrorist without meta data collection.

Next thing is that all these Muslims will have to show their card at state borders so we know exactly who the terrorists are. And people will absolutely agree what a terrific idea, Trump knows his audience

Anyone is a "potential" anything.. don't you think? Is profiling OK only for Muslims?

QS, from some of the comments that have been posted in previous threads, apparently profiling of the poor, and the homeless is acceptable also.
