National Pickle Day - November 14th

Oh, goody! National Pickle Day. Is this an occasion for putting up decorations and giving getting gifts?;)

You do good work @GAlady!

Darn. I've already forgotten what yesterday was. Gotta go back and take a peek.

ETA: figures that I'd forget that yesterday was World Kindness Day. Shame on me.

My Favorite is home made canned Beets! YUM

Some info I found...

Google ( Simon ) says

What meat can you pickle?

Pickling meats is one of the most important preservation techniques, and surprisingly it is not difficult. With corned beef or ham, the process is same: Submerge the beef or pork in brine for a week or longer, depending on the size of the meat. The salt in solution replaces much of the meat juices.

And

How to Pickle Basically Everything

I love how absolutely easy it is to quick pickle—as simple as boiling water, vinegar, sugar, salt, and spices together, then covering your produce with that liquid and waiting a few hours. The difference between a quick pickle and a canned pickle is that the quick pickle process is basically the same as marinating. Canned pickles, on the other hand, use a stronger brine and a water-bath canning process to extend their shelf life.

And the process works with so many ingredients. Beyond the classic cucumbers, other fruits and vegetables that work well for pickles include asparagus, beets, bell peppers, blueberries, cauliflower, carrots, cherries, fennel, ginger, grapes, green beans, mushrooms, onions, parsnips, peaches, peppers, radishes, ramps, rhubarb, strawberries, squash, tomatoes, turnips, watermelon. The list goes on and on.

Hooray for pickle day!

One of my favorites is the crisp sweet bright green 14 day pickle. We used to make them and open the first jar on Thanksgiving.

The pickle of the month club might be a good choice for the pickle lover on your Christmas list.

I don't know what TNT means but there's a recipe at this website just Scroll down for it. I knew a lady that used to make them years ago but I don't have her particular recipe.

TNT - tried ‘n’ true.

Thanks for the link.

I’ll experiment with a small jar when I cut up a wax coated yellow turnip for Thanksgiving!

I may also try a small jar soaked for five days in leftover commercial pickle juice.

Pickled turnips tinted pink with beet juice are just delicious.

The only place I’ve had them is in a Middle eastern restaurant and they were incredible. Another place serves regular pickles, just so much better than ordinary.
