Live just a stone's throw from Idaho, guess I need to see what the big celebration there will be.
I am not sure what makes for good potato growing, I always thought they were likely just the crop of last resort. Too cold or dry to risk growing anything else.

Thanks @GAlady. Now know what today's lunch will be since I bought a couple gold potatoes Wednesday. Nothing fancy. Just wash the outside, mic one a few minutes, cut up and smash for easy eating. Add margarine and salt, maybe a bit of ketchup, washed down with whole milk.
