National V-J Day - September 2nd

I was not quite 3 years old, and it's one of my earliest memories. Of course, I didn't know what war was, and I didn't know we were in a war. But I got out of bed one morning and toddled into the kitchen where my mother was reading the paper. My dad came in after me, and my mother looked up at my dad and said, "The war is over."

I looked at my dad and he just gave a nod as if to say, "Yeah, we knew it would be." I can't remember any special emotional tones from either of them, and I don't recall anything in myself, other than somehow, I knew this was an important thing.
