Natural Ground Covers

Did you leave your heart in San Francisco?
Isn’t there a song that goes something like that? Would you go back if you could?
Yep, I miss the weather and all the things to do but nowhere near being able to afford living there. (Heck, I hear a lot of the people who do still live there can't afford it, in other words they're living in their cars. :( )

Lotsa weeds that love the old hot dry weather, Star Thistle, Goathead, and Foxtails:

Dogs are always getting Star Thistles and Goatheads in their poor paws and always getting Foxtails snorted up into their noses which can travel up to their brain and kill them; so with Foxtails you gotta get them to the vet in a hurry.

I’ve never seen star thistle before they look a bit cactus like. Goatheads I think AlligatorRob introduced me to. He said the same thing about stepping on them and that they stick to dogs. Foxtails I wouldn’t have thought would even fit up a dogs nose but thanks for educating me on them. I hadn’t a clue they were so deadly. Well thanks for sharing. They are very interesting. It’s too bad the Foxtails are so poisonous. They really have a lovely pattern to them.

We had t hat English ivy outside the door here...wifey wanted
it gone, so by hand i tore it out and dug the place up for new
flowers....then I spent months and mucho $$$$$$ getting rid of
the ivy rash...just like poison ivy to me at least.....
I wonder if it was the Ivy itself, or something else that was attached to it, such as some mold or disease or tiny unseen insects of some kind.....but either way, surely sounds like a terribly negative experience for you!

I do love many of the groundcovers in this interesting thread, though.🌱🌿☘️🌿🪸🌾🌱

The other day I found this interesting plant.
It’s not a ground cover. Does anyone know what it is? Are they young spruce tree buds?

These plants here are quite interesting and they aren’t a ground cover. They are called Picture plants. IMG_1301.jpeg
