Near miss car accident

Wow, no idea where that vehicle came from.
This morning whilst pulling out of my driveway, after looking both ways, I very narrowly missed driving into the side of a large SUV.
Was not there when I looked left but I stopped less than a foot from the vehicle which just went on it's merry way at a speed well above a suburban road speed limit.
Would have been a great way to start the morning, exchanging insurance details, having to have my vehicle repaired...

Near misses are just as nerve wracking as crashes.
The only difference being no monetary aspects involved.
Yes, they are. I'd only had my latest car for about a week when I pulled out in front of another car. It is a fastback rather than my previous sedan and my sightline was limited out the passenger side. All of a sudden I heard a horn and saw another car swerving to miss me. It was harrowing. It was totally my fault and I just kept thinking "what if he'd hit me?"

Oh God Bretrick... that made my heart sink. Just 7 weeks since someone smashed into me and caused all my injuries I feel sick when I hear of accidents ... very please you didn't come to harm.. sounds like the SUV was speeding... :(

take it from me they're not quite as nerve wracking.. they shake you up for a few minutes there's no doubt...whereas a crash can kill or seriously injure you.. as I know very well due to a stupid idiotic driver who was in the wrong lane.. and caused these injuries I still have almost 2 months on,...

He was definitely speeding. One second not there, next he was right in front of me and gone just as quick.

It's all the worse when the near miss was your own fault. I consider myself a good and careful driver but once in awhile I'll do something stupid that makes me question my driving abilities.
I was as much to blame as he was.
He was going too fast, I never took enough time to check. Look left look right look left again.
I only looked left, looked right then moved out.

We have the warning features in our car about cars behind or beside us being too close but we have had some near hit incidents, too. Some drivers are so careless and drive way too fast.

It sounds like you did what you should do but somehow these drivers are so fast they are there before you can check again. Just do not let it worry you too much about a careless driver. You are safe and that is good.

I'm glad your okay, Bretrick. Yes, those near misses are nerve wracking because of the what-ifs that come to your mind after it.

There are very few places that I don't back into when I'm parking or drive through parking slots so I can pull out face first. My friend calls that Combat Parking ... your always on the defensive when you drive.

Yesterday, my husband sat in the car while I went into the store. He watched a one near miss because of a guy on his cell phone flying around the corner when a lady was backing out. Ohio went hands free for cell phone in 2023, but so many don't obey it.

I am over it now. Just shaking my head in incredulity for about 5 minutes.

I agree. I had a near miss recently. (Not my fault) It shook me for several minutes. Then I proceeded and forgot about it.

I'm glad it was a miss!
