Necessity is the mother of invention "AND" not being so wasteful.

A much needed power supply upped and died last night. I searched online for a power supply replacement but none were to be had as the equipment was much too old. So I took the power supply apart found the short, cut it out and spliced in some new wire. Whoa, it ain't pretty but the equipment works again. I'm working on replacing the outdated equipment but I have to jump through hoops and it will be fairly expensive, so this was a win for now.

Another thorn in my side was that the AC also started acting flaky - rough night (ah first world problems - poor me). Called my smart BIL and figured out the AC problem. :) Running like a champ now.

Another thought bouncing around my head, I'm far less wasteful than I used to be. A dab of shaving cream works as well as a handful, folded TP is much better than crushing it together. Leftovers - bring them on and make them stretch.

Maybe "I" can become a better steward of this wonderful planet., but I find I still use more than my fair share of crushed grapes. Sorry - but not really. :)

So satisfying to figure out how to fix something & have it work! I’ve always been a “ thrifty yankee” but current times are making me think about and act on how to make things last longer: foods, paper products, whatever.

I'm right there with ya
The commercial shows running the bead of toothpaste along the top of the whole brush
Turns out, just a drop does as well

Heh, leftovers
If you don't eat what's left over, yer liable to pay more than twice what you thought you paid
Not counting the expense of cooking

Glad you got it working. My husband was much like you...he would have done the exact same thing to repair the item. Hope you can find a good replacement soon

I think one major difference right now is that we are taking the time to ponder the possibilities before we run out the door and buy a solution.

"I guess they say, "Necessity is the mother of invention" because you have two stark choices when you find yourself in a really desperate situation. You can either fold and cave-in to it or you can become really passionate about getting out of it." - Viola Davis

“I don’t think necessity is the mother of invention. Invention, in my opinion, arises directly from idleness, possibly also from laziness – to save oneself trouble.” - Agatha Christie

My o/h is Mr Fixit, always has been... he not only repairs things rather than buy new ( proper repairs that sometimes are better than the original manufactured item) .. but also can build and make stuff from scratch , so that it's much better quality than new... . He's very handy to have around, I would have had to replace so many things..like washing machines, tumble dryers.. cars, computers/ pluumbing/electrics.. .. even right down to small things like watch repairs, or a handbag chain handle breaking for example and needing re-soldered ... ...if he wasn't such a spiffingly clever guy...

I have always enjoyed taking things apart to see how they work and to put it back together and still work. (Most of the time)
I took apart, fixed, put together a wash machine once
I was rather proud of the accomplishment
Ready to fire it up
Until I saw an O-ring on the workbench
A very essential O-ring
From deep in the internal guts

So, I did it all again

Practice

Prolly, surgeons do the same thing
