Something has changed. The dynamics are no longer hired help and employer. Actual of perceived longtime friendship is creeping in. Tasks are not being handled as requested. You can cut her hours and kind of let it die by natural causes without being overly obvious.
You know, this could turn out to be the best thing that could have happened! I have a personal problem I'm trying to deal with myself and you might have just helped me to solve it.

@dusty IMHO, I think she is trying to literally take over. You should tell her that her services are no longer needed..
Have you ever watched the movie “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?“ with Bette Davis as Baby Jane who, in later years, tortures her sister Blanche (Joan Crawford) who is paralyzed in a wheelchair?
FWIW, I had the same critter DVM/critter chiropractor for my horses & dogs for ~15 years. She is the best & most intuitive person when working on the animals and they all loved her. She was always difficult to have a conversation with, like walking on egg shells all the time, but she was beyond excellent when it came to fixing my animals.
She is a stout and strong willed “different” female, but always stayed within her bounds — until my husband passed last year and her demeanor started to slowly change. After blowing up over my word choice on a text (I didn’t use DVM when referencing her), she ended what I considered a professional relationship with “call me if you need me”. I replaced her less than a week later and I was a LOT more relieved than I realized I would be.
So to you I say, @dusty , best to get rid of the person and even if you didn’t give her keys to your home, I would change the locks anyway.

This is our present maid’s eighteenth year with us. She has never changed any of her habits, except for her eating habits and her time of arrival. She used to arrive at 7:30, but now arrives at 7:00. She is a very good worker, great personality, always wants to decorate “just a little for all the holidays.” Oh, she has a key and combination to our home to let herself in. Very dependable, always on time, does a great job and asks for nothing. She comes twice a week. No complaints.
