Need help... to drive and stay through the surgery

I did get away with it a couple months ago for some dental surgery, but it was a minor procedure and it took a three-way call which included the transportation company lying for me. Unfortunately that's not going to work this time.
 

Thank you everybody! You have certainly given me some great ideas to follow up on and it's greatly appreciated!
I'll check with the hospitals, and various organizations, and keep trying home care agencies.

Every time I've driven someone for a medical procedure that required someone to stay with the person for a certain period of time afterwards, I had to go in with the patient and say what relation I was to the patient. It's been that way around here for years.

Thanks... I used to live in Calif and never had that experience in LA county

I have no family left, I don't belong to a church. I'm an introvert and my limited friend group is unable or unwilling to help. What do people do??? What can I do, just wait until I can't walk anymore and get a wheelchair? Getting old really sucks!

Generally at least here there is a patient representative ..social worker type and chaplin plus a geriatric assiter at our hospitals ....and of course your moron dr. however you will have better luck with the nurses perhaps a senior facility will have a volunteer brigade?
