My name is Arlene. I live in Brooklyn. I'm going to be 68 years old this weekend. I've been divorced for many years. I have two grown children and no other family. I suffer from chronic Arthritis which leaves me a bit debilitated. It's hard to get out and make friends. I need to find groups, activities maybe.. so I don't feel so alone. Does anyone know of any fun things I may look into?

Thanks.

I believe most park districts have senior activities.. You may look into that... THe one at our park district has activities, and trips to different attractions.. they go all over... plays, zoos, shopping and of course the casinos.

Hi again Arlene,

One thing I know of is the Senior Center. I think just about every town has one. Another thing is that I've been reading a series of little, mystery books, and they're centered around a group of ladies that knit/crochet together. You might be able to get even one lady to meet up one day a week for tea, and doing something like that with her, and see if the group grows. Also, any craft shop may know of things going on already;)

But be sure and come here to yack when you can. A lot of us are alone, and this is a nice place to gather;) Denise

Here's the NYC parks website, they have some information on things in Brooklyn. Click to go to next page. Maybe if you call one of these locations, they can guide to to something near your home. Nwlady is right on with Senior Centers. They are in almost every location, and often have activities, outings and group visits to museums, theater and other places. http://www.nycgovparks.org/phpdig/index.php?sc=sitesearch&q=brooklyn+seniors&submit=Search

Thank you for the good suggestions I will look into it... and if anyone if from the Bensonhurst , Brooklyn area , feel free to let me know. Thanks
