Needle Felting, not a well known art

I met my paternal half-sister just 2 years ago. She introduced me to a craft called Needle Felting. Something I had never seen nor heard of.
I was addicted on 1st try. It dates back to 700BC when it was used to make clothing and blankets. It is now used to make paintings, 2D and 3D items.
It's made from sheep wool that is cleaned but raw, some is dyed now to most any color.
You mold/sculpt it using a needle to poke the oxygen from it causing it to felt together, then cover your foundation with the upper colors of the subject.
My favorites to make are 3D creatures/animals while hers is dog portrait paintings (she has won awards for this).

This is a Mom and baby otter I did for a friend who loves otters, the 2nd is a fantasy dragon I made for my Grand Daughter in Cinn, Bengal colors, his name of course is Cincinnati

I love the finished animals but no way could I ever needle felt. I value my fingers! I think your work is amazing. If I got started on colllecting something, it would be needle felted animals.
I poked myself at 1st but you soon learn not to push so far down or toward your finger. When you do get poked it's a minor thing and you don't bleed but a drop. Thank you for appreciating this artform!

Thank you and I hope you do. I just did my first vendor booth at a craft fair and sold quite a few pieces. My favorite one of a opossum with 3 babies on her back went to an avid collector. That tickled me it went to a good place. I made miniature bunnies and chicks and put them in those large plastic Easter egg candy holders and gave one to each child over 4 years old as a gift. Hopefully those will inspire future felters some day.
