Neighbor Christmas gifts....

AZ Jim

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
We have a little group of 4 families two on my side of the street and two across the street and we are friends and give each other little gifts at Christmas. We also watch each others homes when one is away, water plants, pick up mail and newspapers, etc. When an ambulance came to get me in the middle of the night with a TIA, my neighbors brought my wife to the hospital, they can count on me too. I am lucky to be where we have such neighbors.

Good report on the fine neighbors, Jim. We're blessed to have great folks around here, as well. We consider anyone who lives within 10 miles as a close neighbor. Next week some neighbors are coming over for our annual artificial inseminations, shots, etc. for the Mama Cows and to help us wean the calves. My bride is a seamstress and does a lot of work for the folks. We're all in this gig together.

That's great. Jim. I have a neighbor right across the street who volunteered out of a good heart to shovel us out out in the Winter in the wee hours of the morning. When Eleanor had to go to dialysis three times a week at 6:30 AM, she really saved our life. That has grown into them mowing my lawn through the Summer and raking leaves. They do it out of loving hearts, but I can't let them do it for nothing, so I give them a reasonable "token of appreciation" every month. Nothing like a good neighbor.

I am blessed with wonderful neighbors, too. We watch out for each other and keep and eye on each other's houses, etc. Last week one of them (none will confess to doing the deed) shoveled snow off of my front steps and a path to my car. I was very grateful, because a bad fall could be catastrophic for me. Back when my hips were so bad, they did all kinds of things for me, just out of kindness and friendship.

I'm jealous...our neighborhood changed so much over the last twenty years. Only a few people we even know now. I like to think at least somebody would pop up if there was an emergency, but not anyone we can really depend on.

One of my neighbors has a key to our house and we also have one of those key vaults at our front door that only the fire or police can get into. I cannot even access it.

I am very grateful that I have great neighbors. We help each other out in the times of needs whether big or small. Right now I am caring for their pets while they are away visiting relatives for Christmas. I also get the comfort of knowing my pet is well taken care of when I travel. Whether it be a cup of sugar, a lending hand, or a borrowed item, we are there for each other and very appreciative.

We're lucky to have very nice neighbors. We often shovel each other's walks, and are there for each other year round. We exchange presents with one of our next door neighbors, they've know us for years and when we used to go away camping they watched our house and took in our mail for us. Now we just put the mail on hold at the post office, so we don't have to trouble them. We all keep a watchful eye when one of the neighbors are out of town.
