Neighbors are having a lawn sale

Today would have been our community's town-wide garage sale day. It was widely announced that it was cancelled. However, this morning I was surprised to see my neighbors across the street went ahead with one anyway. I'd be astonished if anyone stopped with the social isolation order still in effect. It is difficult to get people to stop under normal circumstances.

I won't be at all surprised if people stop.. some people are desperate for something to do, but if they have any sense they'll keep away from used items for now... at least!! Also another thing is that they'll be exchanging cash money rather than using a contact less card, and it's known that money is likely to be a huge carrier of the virus.. I hope people keep that in mind if they do stop and buy....

All that said.. .. they may face a fine if the police arrive

I am surprised at the amount of items being listed on FB Marketplace. They have guidelines however (see attached screenshot). Almost seems like more trouble than it's worth. How could anyone disinfect EVERYTHING. What if you aren't set up for cashless payments?

It's hard to know what sort of financial shape people are in these days.

This may be an attempt to scrape up some much-needed quick cash

I don't think it would be an issue with our state order as long as they social distance and keep the gathering under ten people at a time.

I agree with Deb I don't think that they will have many lookers and even fewer buyers.

I did see a white pickup over there and later 2 people looking, but I didn't see a vehicle, so they might have been people who just happaned to be walking by. There might have been others, but I just look when I happen to be going past the front door. Apparently they aren't breaking any laws or the cops would have intervened. The local and sheriff patrol cars pass by often enough.

Here, where i live, there's always market gardens July, August, set up in a green space downtown......surprisingly..... went ahead.....no orders were issued not to hold them.
Very few vendors......very few attendance......there were ropes set up for distance.
A few garage and yard sales signs set up, not very busy, this morning, seems to be a lot of traffic down the street from me, no walkers, just vehicles.
Covid or no Covid.........these sales are not for me, never have been, never will be........sorry shoppers.

I use to go to yard sales... until I learned about bed bugs. no more yard sales for me.

My sister learned the VERY hard and very expensive way about bed bugs. They came in in an upholstered chair and spread through her whole apt like wildfire. After being involved in the cleanup after that and helping get rid of things that could not be disinfected, I will never again purchase anything from yard sales, either. Those bedbugs can infest anything (they really like books and upholstered furniture) and they are damn near immortal and damn near invisible, too. You pretty much have no choice but to hire professional exterminators if bedbugs really get a foothold in your home.

I use paper money when I go to the store and am not afraid of catching the virus from it because I wash my hands thoroughly when I get back.

I think that was back in May when we were right in the middle of the worst deaths, and everyone was trying to keep everything as sterile as possible..in the hope of not contracting the disease. Today I am now giving cash where I can..although many places are only accepting Card, but I refuse to allow cash to become obsolete, so I insist on paying cash for purchases where I can even tho' I would ordinarily use card .

Thank you to whomever mentioned bedbugs. lol I have not stopped itching since reading this thread. OMG, I bought a beautiful living room chair and after reading this I will not ever buy a piece of furniture from a garage sale ~ ever again. I have a habit of itching when I hear of bedbugs, fleas, lice, etc.monkey-scratching-head-600x360[1].jpg

How 'bout Mosquitoes? By the way, you'll never get ONE bite from anything if you use 100% Deet.
