Me and a neighbor's kid have a deal - he stops by whenever he walks to the grocery store on the corner, about 3 blocks from my house, and asks me if I need anything from there. If I do, I give him my debit card and a short list, and he gets to buy himself something with my card. (he knows the PIN)
Jai'ron only stops by when he's hankering for a snack and a soda or whatever, but fair enough, right? Sometimes I need something and sometimes I don't, and that's fair enough with him.
I know it sounds nuts, but he's never gone over the $10 limit I imposed, and he always brings my card back, along with my purchases. I'm only a casual friend of his dad...we chat whenever we happen to see each other outside...but the kid is 16 and bigger than his dad. And anyway, he could just say he lost my card or that I forgot to give it to him...hell, he could call an Uber and go to town with it, but he never has.
I'm the one who started this thing, about a year ago. He was walking past my house when I was out watering the lawn, and I said "Hey! You're Jai'ron, right?" and I asked him if he was going up to the store. He said he was, and I said "If I give you my card, would you mind picking up a few things for me?" and he said "Sure."
I told him what I needed, gave him my card and told him the PIN, and then I said he could buy himself something as payment, but to keep it under 10 bucks. If he hadn't come back within 45 minutes, I'd have called my bank to block the card. To me, that wasn't a big deal...it was worth finding out what kind of kid Jai'ron is.
He was back in about 20 minutes with my card, my bag of stuff, the receipt, and a Thank You. He'd put $8 on my card for himself. He's been stopping by a couple times a month ever since.
