Neil Diamond Has Parkinson's Disease

In the news today ..The singer Neil Diamond have revealed that he is retiring from touring and has cancelled all his concerts after announcing he is suffering from Parkinson's Disease.

I love ND... he's always been a wonderful singer songwriter, I hope he can go on writing songs for a long time yet even though he has to give up touring ....but I do wish they could find a cure for PD.... my father died from the effects of disease too..
 

I just read that too, hollydolly. I agree, he has had some great songs over the years...a true legend.

My grandfather died of Parkinson's disease, as well, it was difficult to watch him slowly decline. I know the actor, Michael Fox, who also has Parkinson's, has been doing all he can to help find a cure.
 
Yes Cindy...Michael Fox has been extremely ective in doing what he can for the PD association... but so much more research is needed, because it would seem so many more people are suffering from it.

They say we get these diseases because we're living longer but neither of any of my grandparents had those diseases and they lives until their 80's and 90's.. yet my father got it in his 70's..and had been fit all his life...
 

Yes, I agree, more to it than living longer. Genetic factors predisposing us to certain diseases or environmental toxins.
 
Sad news. I have always liked his music, and have seen him in concert twice. He is a great performer. My husband's cousin was recently diagnosed with it as well.
 
Very sad news. One of my best friends has lived with Parkinson's for the past 15 years or so. She actually manages pretty well with the advances made in medicine. She still lives alone and worked as an agent with Child Protective Services until retirement age.
 
His music was such an integral part of the halcyon days of my youth. I can't think of a good time I had back then without a Neil Diamond dong playing somewhere in the background.
 
Oooh Mine too Chic... . I think every ND fan loves Sweet Caroline, and I love Song sung blue.... but I think my very favourite is this one..



....and this one will always have a special place in my heart it came out when I was still in school..
