Net Neutrality, a very controversial topic to be sure. I'm just learning a little bit about it, and it seems to be a good thing for the average internet user. Here's some links with information about it, pros and cons, etc. What is your opinion on Net Neutrality?

Net neutrality (also network neutrality or Internet neutrality ) is the principle that Internet service providers and governments should treat all data on the Internet equally, not discriminating or charging differentially by user, content, site, platform, application, type of attached equipment, and modes of communication.

A "closed internet" refers to the opposite situation, in which established corporations or governments favor certain uses.

Advocates of net neutrality such as Lawrence Lessig have raised concerns about the ability of broadband providers to use their last mile infrastructure to block Internet applications and content (e.g. websites, services, and protocols), and even block out competitors.

Vinton Cerf, considered a "father of the Internet" and co-inventor of the Internet Protocol, as well as Tim Berners-Lee, creator of the Web, and many others have spoken out in favor of net neutrality.

Critics of net neutrality also argue that data discrimination of some kinds, particularly to guarantee quality of service, is not problematic, but is actually highly desirable.

Opponents of net neutrality regulation also argue that the best solution to discrimination by broadband providers is to encourage greater competition among such providers, which is currently limited in many areas.

Oh Lord, another thing I have to learn?

I've heard the term only recently, I think Obama talked about it - not that that means much - but if I'm reading this right it might be an advantage for the end-users but a slap in the face of the businesses that make money off of information.

Are they talking about, say, a newspaper like the LA Times not being allowed to charge for access to their stories? That everyone has a "right" to high-speed access?

If so, I smell trouble brewing ... if not, then I need to get on with my learning. Thanks for the post, in either case.

From what I can grasp from an NPR report there will be a two tier system with those who are willing to pay getting faster service. I will read your stuff later...

From what I have heard... those in favor of net neurtality believe the internet belongs to everyone, more or less like a public utility.. and anyone can use it how they please. Those against believe internet providers should be able to dictate what you see and what sites you can visit.. depending on if you pay or not. They can speed up or slow down service.. those paying more get faster service. So... I think I am in favor of net neutrality... if I am understanding it correctly.
