I take gabapentin 2-4x a day, depending on what kind of day I'm having. It helps "some", seems to keep the worst of the feet-getting-shocked-with-a-live-electrical-wire feeling.
I've gone through all the tests by the neurologist and the best he can tell me is that it's "idiopathic", which in doctor-talk means "we have no idea what's causing it but WAIT! there's another test we can run that won't tell us anything either..." I really think "idiopathic peripheral neuropathy" pays for the neuro's new BMW every year.
I'm not diabetic. What I can't figure out is why my toes and part of my feet are numb to the touch, but I still get the stabbing pains. Numb

ain???? What the heck? The blood circulation in my feet and toes are very good, though, so I'm going to lose them anytime yet.
Hey, any day I wake up, read the newspaper and my name isn't in the obits is going to be a great day!
I live with it. It hurts whether I'm sitting, sleeping or walking, so I just keep doing what I have to do.
