Lon's thread re December 7th brought to mind the ongoing news and fall out from the Nazi invasions of the likes of those of Poland,France Norway et al and the collaboration by local governing regimes in those countries al la Quisling and Vichy France

France has just recently come to terms with the occupied governments collaboration with the Nazis.

Of course it's a generation or more past our respective contemporary governments, but so long as any live hopefully the Death March of Bataan by the Japanese, (Bataan Death March, forced march of 90,000 to 100,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war captured by the Japanese in the Philippines) Stalins murder of Ukrainians, Turkey's murders,(Turkish regimes killed from 3,500,000 to over 4,300,000 Armenians, Greeks, Nestorians, and other Christians.) Mao's millions killed,, Dictator Pol Pot and his communist Khmer Rouge atrocities and other deplorable treatment of humans in just this past century need to be taught and remembered and acted on as is possible. The magnitude of these atrocities stagger the mind if you are knowledgeable.

Hundreds of Nazis and other criminals escaped to South America-North America etc. Never forget or it will happen again.

A quisling is a person who collaborates with an enemy occupying force. The word originates from the Norwegian war-time leader Vidkun Quisling, who headed a domestic Nazi collaborationist regime during the Second World War. Wikipedia

A bit unfair I think. They were only the governing regimes after they were put in by the Nazis. The true governments had fled or been neutralised.

Never forget also that Hitler had a similar organisation of British prominente headed by a man who many still regarded as the true King, all ready to slip into pace.

Yes, but they were indeed trusted Nazi collaborators or they would have NEVER been put in the occupation government.

Unfair? How so they were complicit in murder and propped up the Reich. There were some in those countries that actually fought the Nazis,rather than welcoming them with open arms and that then served the 3rd Reich's final solution.
Judgement of those that served their masters so willingly has hardly been unfair. If anything many got away with their heinous acts.

It boggles the mind that there are those today who seek to deny that the holocaust ever took place!!

There indeed those that rushed to aid the Germans in their round up of targets and to me that makes them equally guilty and equally desrving of condemnation and to be ever remembered for their murderous duplicity. That they were French-Poles- or Nowegians by birth does not mitigate their atrocious behavior or collaboration one iota.

Didn't the Vichy French actually engage the Allies on some African beach landings? The French always seem to care about the French and are like a child with ADD. What has France accomplished over the last few hundred years in history other than "lose" two wars with Germany and raise taxes.

My "unfair" referred to the governing regimes who were in power when their countries were invaded and whose members were either captured, put to death or set up a government in exile.
